Rep Power: 2 | Hello All, I am using TATA WM BB (256Kbps unlimited postpaid) for last one week in bangalore. I did bit of searching before choosing my ISP. Most of the forums suggested me not to get TATA. But, only very few posts supported to buy. Later I found that, it is the case with all other ISPs. So, I registered for TATA and got connection in 3 days although they said about 15 days. So, far the connection is good with out any server down. Regarding the download speed, sometimes I used to get >30 KB. I think it all depends on your signal strength and signal strength is around 23. I would like to request the existing TATA postpaid subscribers to provide me the default user name and password for router configuration web interface. Please let me know if you know the details. I tried with admin but no use. Thanks and Regards, Bala |

Rep Power: 0 | hello, How can I manage the StarMAX 2150 subscribers station? Do we have a telnet login or any management (either GUI app or HTML based GUI) software to login to the subscribers station and test the performance and signal strengh? Thanks and Regards Ananth |

Rep Power: 0 | VSNL may be the first to test wimax but my experience has been very bad , The starmax device used for this service has gone through many bugs in its software. They claim the latest release a M version is a stable one , I dont think so . When the Signal is good its speed as good as wireline . VSNL / TATA call centre and complaint mgmt process is pathetic , you have wait for 16 mins to talk to agent The field team is not capable to troubleshoot the issues effectively I have tried using it for past one month , it worked well for 1 day till now , the field team has come to my place 3 times , no resolution yet , In all if you want to try Wimax from VSNl , take a chance on your luck & fate is in God's Hands!! Take a postpaid connection , they dont attend well to prepaid customers They dont provide a recipet for connection payment unless you demand , so I doubt they are doing some fishy bussiness . I have not got one yet , The sales person doesnot attend your call after he takes the sale from you, ALL Together VSNL / TATA Wimax is not yet a stable matured service in market , Ask them a wireline solution & if you are in Banglore there is no option for it , so better solution is a Airtel Broadband , |

Rep Power: 0 | hi usually the Starmax SS has a mgmt Ip Put 192.168.1.10/24 on you PC ethernrt telnet 192.168.1.1 there are many usernames admin/admin support/support But the one u can use to configure is root/telsimawl . You can try to add BS etc some commands configure bs add <freq> <bw> <bsnmae> ex : configure bs add 3316000 3000 bs1 sh bs - for showing bs status The values should be be around -23 and 44 with qam16 modulation sh ip wimax - to see if the ss is recieving DHCP mgmt IP sh conf - copy run start reboot Thats much I know , Dont try to tweak much as the SS box is a piece of scrap and there is no point playing with it . Just dump Tata connection and look for a wired connection for now , Thats the best that ISPs in India are used to and can troubleshoot rather than with a suckign WIMAX moot !! regards, rush2dan |

Rep Power: 0 | This is only a basic Setup. You can change the values according to your wish and for more security. I have Initially tried with a Dlink router and it worked fine...The configuration is simple and straight forward in Dlink Router but I preffered a Cisco Router and purchased a LinkSys WRH54G model. Follow the instructions from the router manual to change the Router Settings. Connect the cable from the PoE box "Data IN" port to the routers "Internet" port (Blue Port). Connect the LAN cable from the Ethernet Port (marked 1 - 4) behind the Router to your PCs network Card (RJ45 Interface). Once your Wireless link is UP you can remove this cable. Change the computer IP to 192.168.1.20 with default subnet mask. Open Internet Explorer and type http://192.168.1.1 (this is the default IP address of Linksys router) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Click WAN icon Enter the username and Password (refer the manual for Username & password) Select "Setup" from top Left corner Enter the Values given by the service provider for the "Basic Setup" INTERNET SETUP (e.g.) Internet Connection Type : Select "Static IP from the drop down list" Internet IP Address: 121.243.x.x (your Static IP provided by VSNL) Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.x Gateway: 121.243.x.x Static DNS 1: input the first DNS IP address provided bythe service provider Static DNS 2: input the Second DNS IP address provided by the service provider Optional Settings Leave this field as it is NETWORK SETUP Router IP Local IP Address : 192.168.1.10 Note: remember this IP address. Next time you have to type http://192.168.1.10 to access the router configuration page. Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0 Server Settings (DHCP) DHCP Server : Select "Enable" Starting IP Address : 192.168.1.100 (Select Default Value - Avoid starting from 192.168.1.1) MAC Binding : Dont change anything here. Maximum Number of DHCP users: 50 Client Lease Time : 0 Default gateway : 0.0.0.0 WINS : 0.0.0.0 Time Settings Don’t change the default settings Don’t change the default values of "DDNS", "MAC Address Clone", "Advance Routing" and "WAN Port Configure" unless your are familiar with these settings. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- From the Top Select "Wireless" Basic Settings Wireless network Mode : Mixed Wireless Network Name (SSID) : MyNetwork Wireless Channel : 6 - 2.437GHz Wireless RF Control : Standard Wireless SSID Broadcast : Enable Wireless RF Scheduling : Disable Wireless Security Security Mode : WEP Default Transmit key:1 WEP Encryption : 64 bits 10hex digits Pass phrase : leave Blank and input a valid Hex key in the key 1: field key 1: abcdef1234 ( Dont put this value - Jumble the characters and remember this value) Leave MAC Filtering and Advance Settings ----------------------------------------------- Leave "Security", "Access Restrictions” and "Applications and Gaming" with the default values. --------------------------------------------- Click on Administration from the "Management Option" and change the Router Password . Enable Wireless Web management Access and disable Remote management. Leave all other settings with their default Values. ----------------------------------------------- Click on “Save Settings” at the bottom. This will save the configuration and will reinitialize the router. You will loose the connection to the router at this time. Take the TCP/IP properties of your computer and change the settings to “Obtain an IP address automatically” and “Obtain DNS address automatically”. Reboot the Computer and verify the computer has obtained an IP from the router DHCP Lease.Type “ipconfig /all’ at command prompt to check this. To access the Router configuration page again type http://192.168.1.10 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ If your PC/Laptop is not configured for a wireless connection, install the appropriate driver and enable the connection or take the help from the vendor. At this time you can remove the Input the key which you have entered in the router configuration page (Under Wireless security - key 1: ). To configure the Starmax box, refer to some other links given elsewhere in this thread. If you experience any problem, Switch off PoE, Router and computer. Reboot PoE first, Router second and computer third |

Can u suggest about the performance. 2. I need the contacts for getting a new connection. 3. How much do they charge initially. Ganesh gpganesh@gmail.com |

I need to setup the PPPOE mode and connect my wireless router to the modem. I too am not able to connect to the starmax modem. Telnet says "could not open connection on the port 23". I ran a port scanner on the box which found that both port 23 (telnet) and SSH are blocked. How to login to the modem now? Please help ASAP. Thanx !!! | |
