I had taken a 6 month pre-paid broadband service from Tata Indicom. Right from the word go, it was such a harassing experience. I would have never shouted at anyone in my life as I had repeatedly do with their support people!
I rarely was able to work on it for a few hours without getting disconnected quite frequently. I have taken the unlimited scheme as i do a lot of download. In order to utilize these downloads, i actually needed to leave the download overnight. But it was a complete waste as it used to disconnect in less than an hour.
I have called up their support and every time they take the complaint and give me the complaint number and nothing happens. When i call them few weeks later (as nothing has happened), they say that the complaint is closed! at least 15 such incidents would have happened in 3 months. My advise to anyone who is taking a prepaid; first take a 1 month scheme and see how it goes. Otherwise, you would be just wasting your money.
Finally, after repeated straining of my temper, their person finally visited me nearly 4 months later and he was not able to identify the problem! By then the harassment with the service was so much that I've given up. Let 2 more months pass and be done with it for ever!
I had MTNL Triband earlier. The major problem with that connection was that it goes dead quite often. And many times, I had to make an incoming call to get the line alive. Finally, i've given it up. To get rid of it was a another big harassment. I was made to run from one MTNL to another MTNL office to submit the stuff for disconnection. The modem was on rent and can u imagine they while submitting it back, they even wanted the installation CD back! They have put a penalty for not submitting that useless CD!
But, my experience with Tata Indicom was much worse. Surprisingly, a neighbour of mine who has Tata Indicom broadband does not find much problem with it. But he has the one with the modem (and one telephone connection). My connection was a cable one without modem. I dont know whether that made the difference.
Now, I dont know which ISP to go for. I think in India everyone rolls out their services without being ready and ultimately the consumer suffers. It is not just the money. The kind of mental agony one goes through when you find a service which disconnects 4-5 times an hour...
