    Default is the modem free

last yr i opted for tataindicom broadband new connection with Surf Power 7500(6months) at that time they didn't charged anything for modem.

    I have ADSL2+Modem TAD 100 modem

i used their service for 1 yr by recharging again with surfpower 7500 after 6 months.

Now i want to switch to bsnl broadband.

is the modem free to me. can i configure it for bsnl with ease.

pls reply at the earliest ... validity shall expire by month end.

here what i found on the website

Any CPE provided by Tata Communications is the property of Tata Communications. Subscriber shall return it to Tata Communications on termination of account.

    * CPE means the Customer Premise Equipment, including the Modem and/or Router/Set top boxes/ others installed by Tata Communications at Customer Premises and required for accessing the Internet

You are right about what you found from the Tata Indicom website.

As far as I understand, Tata Indicom offers modem free of charge for use, but it does not belong to you. They say that you are obliged to return the modem back to them when the contract terminates.

However, I am not sure what they will do with an old modem. But if you have paid a deposit, perhaps you will get it back only after returning the CPE.

As regards to your other query:

Technically any ADSL modem can be used with any ADSL ISP. But most Indian ISPs modify the firmware to suit their purposes - the modem may still work or it may give you problems.

BSNL will not support you for technical issues for a modem that is not supplied by them. Even if their tech dept is weak, if and when you call up, they will first blame the modem especially in case if you get frequent disconnections.

In One Word NO u the Modem is not ur property and when u disconnect ur connection or ur connection remains idle for a month u will be asked if u want to renew or not if u say no then u have to return the Modem no argument u must have signed the agreement it clearly states the CPE is there property.
U got it free since u must have paid for 6 Months subscription i also got it that way only. But switching to Airtel the TATA has worst service.
