i. The Tata photon people did not notify about usage right from day 1 when I started using the 1800 minutes per month scheme. I called up numerous times the person who introduced me to this scheme as well as customer care for keeping me updated on the usage (as promised), but in vain. The guy was plain rude and seemed as if responding to a crank call.
ii. All in a sudden. I received a sms stating 2377 mins of usage, on the 14th day of usage. If it's 1800mins/month, then why didn't they stop providing service as soon as the limit was over? AT least, they could have sent a notification.
iii. All these days, I kept the device connected to the USB port even when not online and noticed the messages stating ridiculous usage, often 300 minutes or so. I stopped keeping the device that way since the 16th of this month and found the usage drop drastically (to 99 minutes, which is still 9 or 10 times the actual usage) and bingo; they stopped the service. I'm still waiting for the bill to be generated.
iv. Upon letting the person who sold me the connection, he is now trying to convince me that since the connection initiated on the 17th of last month, so it had 13 days validity; which is opposite of the 17th to 17th claim he made while selling the connection.
However, the most astonishing part is: Despite the Photon people temporarily stopping the service on 17.05.12, I'm getting usage record sms as high as 229 mins and the are not willing to take me out of the scheme. They are also delaying sending the bill so that the amounts pile up and they can rob out another customer out of his money.
But most of all, some of the employees at the Tata Photon hubs mislead customers intentionally and play dirty tricks to sell old devices from other authorized dealers. Perhaps they got some monetary settings for which they do it. In this context, I shall like to mention two of my experiences:
i. The guy South City hub, Kolkata, named Shameek, convinced me that there are different devices for pre-paid connections and post paid connections and called in another fellow (Tamnoy) who is an authorized dealer for Tata Photon ( DEy Communications) from another part of the town who sold me - which I came to know later - an old device. Should I take it as a ploy for clearing off old devices from the stock to unsuspecting customers? Or, just a way to resell repaired stuff?
ii. The NSC bose road hub, Kolkata, introduced me to the 1800 minutes plan bent backwards to me for taking it up. The guy, Sunny, who got me into the scheme turned pretty rude when it came to solving my problems and giving me a proper aftersales service.
My assumptions are: These Tata Photon employees are underpaid, so they opt for any means that will earn them their commissions and cuts. Or, they come from social stratas where self-esteem or ethics are alien words. Now, if Tata doesn't look into the matters, it shall be evident that they are doing so with the consent of the management.
I was thinking of booking the Safari Dicor this month, but if this is what Tata offers, then I thank God to let me know of Tata's policy with a much lower-priced product.
