Smart Consumer Checklist when buying a Photon Plus Stick
1. A USB Stick or SIM Card, allow you to access Internet, on the go, while you are on the move. Request for a Demonstration at the place, you would be using the Device.
2. When you purchase the Tata Indicom Device, be sure to check out the Data Plan. See if there are any concessional offers(schemes), any corporate schemes.
3. For the first Billing Cycle, the Volume of Free Data Usage, is calculated on a Pro-rata Basis. Be sure you don't exceed it, or you'll have to pay more than your fixed rental.
4. Wireless Internet Signals are like any other communication-signals. If you stay in a thick Ambush Area, where the signal-strength is low, chances are you may face Low Internet Speed or Connectivity Issues.
5. To be doubly sure, you can borrow your friend's Tata Indicom Phone, and check the reception(signal strength) in your area of residence.
6. Many Telecom Operators work in a 2-tier fashion. They focus on acquiring new customers/business. However, to cut costs, they do not maintain the Tower Infrastructure themselves, rather outsource it to some other Agency. Bear in mind that, the Tower Infrastructure Management Team is separate Agency.
7. Always ask for a Home Installation. If there are any installation issues, they would be sorted out then and there.
8. The Grievance Escalation Mechanism in Tata Indicom is something like this. Tata Indicom Customer Care -> Nodal Officer -> Appellate Authority.

As someone using tata photon for quite sometime-I can give better tips!

1.Never ever buy post paid. Get prepaid.
2.BSNL EVDO (cdma) network offers same speed but cheaper (rs 750 UL) and wide coverage in all small towns in India.
3.Photon coverage is only in big cities. (For example in tamil nadu only coimbatore and chennai where as MTS or Bsnl EVDO offers coverage in 8-10 B class towns. same story in AP.
4.Asking for a demo- good idea- If your flat is in a shadow area and get only 2 or 3 signal bars ,your speed will suck.
5.In 2g coverage (cdma/evdo) if one is willing to spend Rs 1000+ and post paid,reliance netconnect is a better option with all India coverage.
6.Only reason I choose tata photon 6 months back was balance carry over. I used to recharge rs 1350/10gb and recharge Rs 200/300mb on the 30th day to carry forward the un used balance.
7.In TN -MTS coverage is good .same speed as Tata .Rs 1000 (12gb linit and after that 1X ) .Modem reduced to rs 1000!
8.If you are not a mobile person, forget USB modem broadband stick and go for wired ADSL connection.(unless your home is not covered by any wired broad band provider)
9. There are horror stories of people buying USB (locked ) broadband modem and no proper signal in the place where they spend maximum time!!
10. I get between 0.7 to 1.2 Mbps in my Tata photon with full signal in heart of town in secunderabad/Bangalore/Chennai/Puttaparthi/and Mumbai/Delhi airports.

@Ulysses.......any idea abt MTS coverage in Tamil Nad in cities like salem, pondicherry, vellore, nagercoil, Madurai!
