Default Terminating TataSky

I want to disconnect the Tatasky due to their unreasonable package charges. How can I do it? Is any other DTH service provider exchanging?

If not will the tatasky get back the STB? If not what will be the use of receiver?

I might be wrong but as tata sky is prepaid all you need to do is stop recharging it and it will stop on its own.

For the set top box you can sell it to someone who wants to install tata sky and he/she will not have to pay tata sky for the STB in this case. I think you might have to inform tata sky that you have sold the STB so they can change the address and name and everything for that STB... You might wanna give them a call to see what the procedure is.

If you want to sell your STB you can open a thread in the buy sell section and I am sure you would get some response there... make sure you provide your location in your sales thread for better targetted response.

I am using tata sky at my home and not facing any problem with it ans as far as i know other stable DTH providers are also offering same channels at same rate, i checked Dish Tv plans and found that DishTv and Tata Sky are offering similar plans only, not sure about Big TV.

If you want to cancel then you need to call tata sky care for that and they will help you to cancel your subscription.

And I think switching to another DTH provider will actually turn out to be costly due to the initial setup cost and stuff and even Tata sky will reduce their prices as would every one else due to competetion so none of them can actually get away with charging more then the others as switching is so easy and there is no availability or feasability problem unlike broadband.

If you hang on for the time being I guess you wont be at loss in the long run.

Just stop payment/recharge and you will get disconnected automatically. But you are advised to speak to customer care also in knowing the correct procedure. There are no (official) exchanges but you may be able to sell the dish/STB at a reasonable price to someone else.

Although DishTV is slightly cheaper right now, it may not remain so in future.

1. DishTV is slow in adding new channels.
2. They added 'Colors' just a week or two ago and it will be free till 31-Oct-08 only. Afterwards it will be Rs. 15/- pm.
3. Sahara One and Filmy are part of Punjabi regional bouquet only. If you like those channels and you are on some other regional bouquest, you will need to pay Rs. 25/- pm.
4. I also know that the CNBC channels will be separated into a separate group and charged extra. I recieved an SMS from DishTV on this.

So in the end TataSky and DishTV will work out the same.

I don't want to even bring BigTV into the picture here. Many members have reported issues with call centre and installation.

And just as admin said, the cost of hardware CPE will not justify a move (well not so in case of DishTV).

Another thing you might want to consider is that Dish tv is the market leader and Tata sky is far behind when it comes to number of customers so in my opinion tata sky is going to get more aggressive with its pricing to woo more customers so tak it easy my friend and stick to tata sky

Wait and watch what happens in the next 6 months when we would have all these dth operators fighting for market share videocon dth is yet to be launched and it will be any time soon. Airtel is going to be launched today and I am sure they will have lower prices then all the ones that are available including big tv.

Although its not a big deal or not a lot of money involved but this is not in my opinion the right time to switch Wait another 6 months and you would never think of switching again and will stick to tata sky The reason being there will not be any difference atall in prices of any dth service provider... may be 5-10 rs a month at the most.

Thank you all for replying to my thread.

I am unsatisfied with them only because of their packages they released. The sports channels I am being watch are separated and broken into two packages One is sports gold and another is sports platinum which I have to pay Rs.70/-PM more. Also Ten sports became la-e-carte. For that I must pay Rs.15/-PM. All other DTH service providers are giving the 9x, bindass, NDTV image, UTV movies Newsx and UTVi as FTA(along with the base packages). But Tatasky only collecting Rs.45/-PM under the package of Lifestyle gold. All the important channels are separated from the base package and converted into the packages.

Presently the price war between various operators is only for the Newbies.

In CAS system TRAI has declared that the cost of each pay channels should not exceed Rs.5/- PM. Why can't TRAI do it for DTH operators too?

Finally, as Admin told I decided to postponed the disconnection to further six months and wait for rate war.

Once again I will be very thankful for your valued response. If any changes in tariff please let me know.
