Thread: Tata Sky Prices to be Hiked again

According to the latest tata sky alerts - prices of some packages will we hiked marginally from 16th feb,09.

the most popular Super Saver Pack will now be priced rs.275 per month instead of Rs.260 per month. This has been done to force users to opt for the annual packs. the annual super saver pack will now cost Rs. 2600 i.e. Rs.217 per month.

the family pack will cost rs.215 instead of rs.200 per month.

the super hit pack will cost rs.125 instead of rs.99 per month.

the sports gold pack (neo channels) will cost rs.40 instead of rs.30 per month.

new price for ten sports will be rs.20 per month instead of rs.15 per month.

You can check all these details by pressing the help Button on your Tata Sky remote.

In my opinion, this is yet another cheap move from Tata Sky which already is the most expensive among all DTH service providers.

Will this affect people who are already paid up for a longish period but less than a year, say 6 months?

No. What I meant was as follows:

a) Suppose I am a TS subscriber.
b) I have paid for 6 months on Jan 1, 2009 (so my subscription is up for renewal on Jul 1).
c) Rates are increased from 16-Feb.
d) Am I protected from rate increase till Jul-1 or will I be charged new rates wef 16-Feb?

Because, DishTV also increased the rates last year end. But for all people that were paid up (regardless whether they were annual, bin-annual, monthly, etc.) were protected from the rate change till their subscription was over.

no matter how much balance you put into your account, tata sky charges of different packages are calculated on a daily basis ... when the new rules will be applied, charges will be deducted accordingly ...

they can not change the tariff for annual customers.
but they can always re-work the package offered to existing annual customers and move channels that were earlier included in the package to a new add-on pack for which they charge additional money

Hiking the prices has become a ritual for TS.My local cablewalla offers more channels at low price.

Indeed a Sad news, better take SUN DTH which is cheaper

i have both connections at my home ... tata sky and local cable ... but trust me ... no one can even watch local cable after getting used to tata sky or for that reason any good DTH. local cable sound and picture quality doesnt comes anywhere near to tata sky ...

many good channels are still unavailable in sun dth ... also the installation charges are high

Hey guys! There is good news. First, everyone is price protected for 6 months from the date when they have subscribed to the package. So if you have been using a package for a month, then you will be protected for the next 5 months etc.... The second even better newz is that more channels are being added to Tata Sky base packages. Especially my fav.. 9XM... Its awesome!

Till now no channels have been added on Tata sky

Have patience dude! The official announcement will be done on the 16th. You will know then.

new major hindi news channel IBN7 added by TATA SKY today ...

Tata sky have raised the price of their base packs especially for all north packs they have increased the prices.

Super Hit Pack - price increase by Rs.25 that is from Rs.99 to Rs.125. family pack - price increased by Rs.15 from Rs.200 to Rs.215 and price of super saver pack has also been increased by Rs.15 from 260 to 275.

Over all it is a bad news for all tata sky subscribers as now they have to shell out more money from their packet. that is an extra burden of money on the packet for normal subscribers.

And so they should move to dishtv, right?

This is just for the information and also to move from one to other dth is totally depends on individuals decision. If you are satisfied with your product then i don't think their is any need to change. Like if you are satisfied with tata sky services, packages and prices then no need to change.

Guyz , i just had a cold drink and it cost me 10 bucks. Image how much we all spend on these things. Lets not argue about 20-30 bucks. We spend more in our daily lives without even noticing it. So its a small issue. Lets argue and fight about something big!

u got a point there, its funny how we miss the costs that are not needed, and something like this where there is a price hike, we start shouting about it!

agreed. but, i used to pay 260-300 bucks per month for tata sky even till 10months ago. now for various packages being separated and price hikes, i am having to pay almost abt 400 bucks per month for almost the same set of channels. dont you think this is a considerable amount of difference ... we are having to pay this extra amount every month.

But if you get a Big TV or a DISH TV package for the same channels, I am sure you will pay almost the same amount. Almost everyone has or will increase their prices. Airtel TV has recently removed some channels from its base pack as put it as add on. So everyone is increasing the prices. It won't make a different if it is Dish TV or Tata Sky or Big TV. Its someting to do with rising operation costs and inflation.
