Reliance's Bigtv use MPEG-4 compression, which will allow it to pack twice as many TV channels per transponder, compared to the older MPEG-2 technology deployed by DishTV and TataSky.
As a direct consequence, Bigtv 8 Measat, MPEG-4 deployed transponders can carry more channels than the 12 transponders on TataSky.
MeaSat-3 has 12 Ku Band transponders, and the Antrix-Measat agreement includes the option for Antrix to lease additional transponders, if required.
Maran's Sun Direct DTH has also deployed MPEG-4 compression.
MPEG-4 can be deployed on any satellite transponder, but requires MPEG-4 Satellite receivers which are currently not only in short supply globally, but also cost twice as much compared to MPEG-2 transponders. Most MPEG-4 satellite receivers are backward compatible, and can receive MPEG-2 transmissions. As a result, TataSky and DishTV have the option to deploy; in future; MPEG-4 STBs for (Bandwidth hungry) High Definition TV (HDTV) Transmissions, for Premium service customers.

BIG TV USES MPEG-4 TECHNOLOGY WHICH GIVES BETTER PICTURE QUALITY THAN MPEG-2 WHICH CURRENTLY TATA AND DISH TV ARE USING IF TATA HAVE TO EMPLOY MPEG-4 THEN THEY HAVE TO REPLACE ALL THE STB'S WHICH THEY HAVE GIVEN TO ALL CUSTOMERS.

MPEG-4 COMPRESSION IS BETTER THAN MPEG-2 COMPRESSION

^ yet another copy-paste

Compression has nothing to do with picture quality.

------------------

I already mentioned this in the quoted review in my previous post. that part is Bolded in Red.

i just pasted the picture screen shot because i don't have time to connect my dvd recorder to STB and burn a dvd then load into pc then take screen shot! i have business to look after.

yes reliance big tv have disadvantages like laggy STB slow prog navigation recharge problem etc, just leave all that apart and concentrate on "picture quality" after all the main reason i disconnected my old coaxial cable after that sky and switched to BIG TV because of picture quality.

main thing is u like Tata broadband and tata dth services and i like Reliance broadband and Reliance dth services and both are good in their own ways.

I am not biased towards every service TATA provides. I am not much satisfied with TATA Indicom Broadband. Their service has detoriated a lot recently.

But, you are being biased towards Reliance in everything.

dude Reliance is not giving me money to support or publish good info about their products and i am not biased with reliance,i was just telling u what type of tech they are using to employ DTH and u r taking it wrong.

dude MPEG-4 gives better quality just read the info below its taken from Wikipedia.

MPEG-2: Transport, video and audio standards for broadcast-quality television. MPEG-2 standard was considerably broader in scope and of wider appeal – supporting interlacing and high definition. MPEG-2 is considered important because it has been chosen as the compression scheme for over-the-air digital television ATSC, DVB and ISDB, digital satellite TV services like Dish Network, digital cable television signals, SVCD, and DVD.

MPEG-4: MPEG-4 uses further coding tools with additional complexity to achieve higher compression factors than MPEG-2.[7] In addition to more efficient coding of video, MPEG-4 moves closer to computer graphics applications. In more complex profiles, the MPEG-4 decoder effectively becomes a rendering processor and the compressed bitstream describes three-dimensional shapes and surface texture.[7] MPEG-4 also provides Intellectual Property Management and Protection (IPMP) which provides the facility to use proprietary technologies to manage and protect content like digital rights management.[8] Several new higher-efficiency video standards (newer than MPEG-2 Video) are included (an alternative to MPEG-2 Video), notably.

for more info on MPEG's read here Moving Picture Experts Group - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

only Sun DTH, Aitel digital TV and Reliance Big tv is using MPEG-4, if MPEG-2 gives better quality then why they deployed MPEG-4?

I don't love big tv that much nor reliance is paying me to promote their DTH.

things i don't like in BIG TV

1, stb hangs frequently
2,channel navigation sucks big time
3,annoying big tv logo on top left on Tata its on down right and also its visibility is low.
4,once ur pack expires it takes 6 hours to resume so u have to be in continuity, once i delayed for 1 day and recharged via cell phone it took 6 hours to activate!!! damn that was annoying.
5, poor cust care

things i like in Big Tv

1,fantastic picture quality if u don't believe then go to retailer and compare it with Dish tv and tata Sky on same channel.(but don't compare with sun DTH and Airtel DTH because both use same Mpeg-4 compression as reliance)
2,higher no of channels.
3, superb sound on channels like mtv and channel V,no hissing in sound when volume is high.
4,latest Mpeg-4 video type broadcast.
