Default Main Aur Mrs Khanna on showcase

Its not even been a week since the release of the movie Main Aurr Mrs Khanna and its already available on Tata Sky showcase, which is good news for viewers, as this time they are able to view a brand new movie from their home. The movie charge is Rs150.

If this is the way DTH services will be or in this case the way Tata Sky will be then its good, as ti will attract more customers and give the company a plus point for its viewers.

The movie is a flop. TataSky or DishTV, I would not pay Rs. 150 for this movie.

However, a family of four can save a lot on these on-demand movies.

I have just found out that this movies is not only available on Tata Sky but many other DTH providers have this on their showcase/movie on demand too!

    Exactly.

Since the movie is not expected to rock the box office, the killing is being tried at other places.

And all those who are rejoicing that "their" DTH provider is providing this service, please take such news with a pinch of salt.

Only the distributors can agree to sell the broadcasting rights for the movie. If they agree, then DTH operators will only be too happy to lap up the offer. Of course sometimes, it is the DTH providers who chase the distributors for movies. But the distributors have to agree finally.

As you may have noticed, very rarely movies from the stable of Yash-raj films, Dharma Productions, etc. are shown on TV so quickly.

I think once the user base of the DTH increases manifold over the next couple of years there are good chances that all distributors/producers would look at it as a very good potential market for thier movies. Lot of ppl who would not take the pain to go to a theatre and spend 300-400 rs and instead buy pirated DVDs worth 100 etc would be ready to pay for on demand movies thereby converting a lot of lost income via piracy into legal income for the producers.....but only time will tell...

This statement is very naive at best.

No producer/distributor will sell the rights to a film to DTH unless the movie is not making money in the cinema halls. Good (hit) movies will never arrive on DTH platform till they are out of the cinema halls.

The case of Main aur Mrs. Khanna proves the point exactly. After three/four weeks no one even remembers that there was such a movie - it came, it saw, it sank without a trace.

Even after its theatre release a weeks time is not bad to showcase it on Showcase movies.

What is good or bad (for DTH) is besides the point.

What I am trying to say is that if a movie appears very quickly on DTH, then it is bound to be a flop. There could be an exception (once in a blue moon) but that is about it.

Yes a theatrical rating is still contemporary method of judging the level of acceptance whether a movie will be a Flop or a Hit.
