Thread: Tata Sky + queries

I have a lot of queries about Tata Sky, and rather than asking the Tata Sky team i would rather ask on the forum, at least i will get honest reviews!

1) What all functions are there in the Tata Sky + box?

2) How far ahead can you record programmes, for example can i record programmes in a weeks advance?

3) Can recording be made with all channels or are some channels excluded?

4) For how long can you keep recorded programmes for?

5) Can movies also be recorded?

I do not have first hand experience of TS+ but based on typical DVRs I have seen in the market, and some news from the websites, I will try to answer to the best of my ability/knowledge.

The box has all the functions of the standard TS STB plus the function to record programs either on the fly or via programming. Recording is done in MPEG2 format on the HDD inside the box. When the HDD gets full, oldest recordings are erased first. But you can tell the box not to erase certain recordings.

I do not have an exact idea but most DVRs allow programming up to 2 weeks in advance. You can also set a permanent recording of a particular channel everyday. For example, if you wish to record the program on Star Plus everyday from 9 PM to 9:30 PM, this is very much possible. Recording will continue everyday till you tell the device to stop.

You can record any channel.

Please see answer to Q1 above. Recorded programs will be available till they are automatically erased (because HDD is full and device wants to record new content) or manually erased.

Yes.

One thing should be noted. You can record the programs on the device but you cannot extract the contents to other device such as a PC.

you can record and watch but alas! as long as you continue to recharge your account. Once your account is somehow deactive e.g you do not wish to recharge during exams of your children. During that time, you cannot even watch those recordings! this is really cheating and fraud by tatasky guys. you assume after spending bucks on this new STB that now those recordings are your own, to be watched anytime. But no, they compel you to keep you account active, only then you can watch your own recordins.

HAS ANY TECHNICAL GEEK FOUND ANY WAY TO EXPORT THAT CONTENT ON TO YOUR CD OR ANY EXTERNAL DRIVE, I WOULD BE KEEN TO KNOW!
