Thread: New Tatasky software upgrade

Hello all,

I was watching tv on my pc. And suddenly a black screen came then just after a second a new software is being downloaded

Time - 2:26 AM

Though i would tell this to all

Excited to know if there is any significant changes. If anyone finds tomorrow let me know.

EDIT: Update is complete till now seen only one changes and that is useless. They added a small box to the info bar or whatever it is called which pops up when you change channel. Tatasky what is this?

I would call this as a spam update. They added a stupid ad box.

Anyways apart from that, iam glad that iam one of the few who saw this update first

Tatasky has today updated the software with the Digicomp SW Version : 1.4.2.001
Changes:
= New big scan bar for promo, like dat of TS+
= And also now we can change channel in guide

If there are any other changes plz post it !

I've got a yellow envelope alert that won't go away

Ive seen the the new software update, I find it quite useless, it uses up too much space and like Jagan said there is that additional ad box which is again waste of space.

That yellow envelope means that you have a new message, and you have to press the yellow button to view your messages! Once you have read the new message the yellow envelope alert will disappear!

Thanks, but I know what the yellow envelope means. Since the update I have had an envelope that won't go away even after I've viewed (and deleted!) my messages. I never had this problem before, so I assume it is a bug in the updated software.

My first tata sky multi room connection (STB) has not been updated with the latest software,but my secondary multi room connection (STB) has been updated.

I heard that Tata Sky have a new STB too, do you have two different STB's?

With the upgrade I dont know how it works, whether they upgrade the software as a whole or on the different STB's, one at a time!

@ Preeti Yes,I have two STB's and it is one by one.My second STB's software was update two weeks ago and my first STB was updated two days ago.

Both my STB's are the similar,the first STB has the display at the bottom and the Card on the Top,whereas my second STB has the display on the top and the card at the bottom.

The first STB was bought in December 2006 for Rs 5990/-

The second STB was bought in 2008 (Rs 4500/-)and even though there were newer STB's at that time,my dealer gave me an old model.

I feel bad as I got the old STB when the new STB was already available when I bought it in 2008.

Same problem here - the yellow envelope does not go away, and idiots at the CS dept have no clue what I am talking about. I am planning to open a case with them over the internet - this way it goes to Bangalore, and I get a call from them.

I have been a subscriber for two years with two set top boxes.

It is disgusting to see the new advert for Showcase movies appearing on the Information bar.

This is very irritating and did not expect from a TATA group company. This is WORSE than telemarketing.

Today, they will be advertising SHOWCASE movies, tomorrow they might start advertising peanuts, detergent powder etc.

Normally, a person changes the channel every 2 minutes, sometimes 5-6 times in one minute. So, to be forced to see the advert for the SHOWCASE movies is very irritating.

Also, children, when they see this, pressure the parents to allow them to watch this. If this is what TATASKY wanted, I have to say it is not ethical on TATA SKY’s part to do this type of advertising.

Also, now, the information bar covers almost 50% of the screen.

I hope TATASKY remembers that it is only a carrier for Television channels and NOT A CHANNEL by itself, so that it can advertise as and when and wherever they want.

We are paying the charges for the signals carried from TATASKY and don’t want this intrusive way of advertising.

I hope the person who came up with this idea will be sacked…

Many Co.s will try to push in their product advertising across dth through text ads.

Don't know guys but i have no Yellow envelop symbol on my screen, and remember i have the new software (after all i was the first to report ). Here is a screenshot below shows no Message envelop symbol.



And who dont know how the new box added ( i call it spam box) looks like here i took a screenshot to show the spam box see it below.



Already they have there channel (no 100) full of ads and that too comes when setup box is turned on. Is that not enough for them? Stupids iam gonna send them mails and mails.

This is clever piece of advertisement much to the annoyance of regular users.

Tata Sky is really irritating.

To begin with, they charge much higher than cable operators. In spite of that they spam you in multiple ways. That yellow nag envelope that appears after all their spam lands on your system was bad enough. Now they have found even more irritating ways like advertising on the banner and covering half the screen.

In fact the T Sky software is not even designed well. They have not economized on screen real estate. Just try reading the programs in the channel guide. The columns there are way too small to be able to read the program names properly. To see what I mean, try and compare it say with Hathway set top box software. The banner actually needed to become smaller... instead they have the cheek to enlarge it to half the screen size!

I sent them a complaint the next day it appeared. I suggest other users here do the same.

In response to my complaint, someone called me and made it sound like its all about consumer education!! He said most of their customers don't even know what the showcase is all about, etc., etc., so it is for their benefit. I told him it does not matter what they call it. It doesn't change the fact that it is extremely irritating and their software itself is not well designed.

Tatasky's CEO says we have got 5 million subscribers and thanks us, if they not gonna remove that next time when he will come on tv he will just have to say we lost 2 million subscriber actually he won't dare to come on tv

Seriously, who ever read this thread just send a message (either via email or phone) to tatasky instantly no matter how much busy you are.
Keep flooding their email account with same message and if they ask you why are you spamming? Then say you are spamming by tv screen with ur stupid spambox so iam spamming your email they need to soon make a new email account and will announce like they changed helpline number

(Just was joking don't do that ) Simply send a email.

Hi, I am h n s mani from Mysore also having tatasky.The software update was done in batches it seems.Yes i see a marked improvement in picture and sound quality.The pic is much more sharp and the contrast is better now.The only annoying change( a little bit)is that whenever the STB is switched off it goes to channel 100 when switched on again.we have to then change to our preferred channel which we were watching already.but even on channel 100 the ads and other information is projected in a technically high quality.Tata Sky does not bombard its subscribers with high tech jargon like Mpeg 4 pic and the like.
