Default Starting Problem with tata sky STB

Hi ,, ive been a subscriber of tatasky from the last 3 years or so. recently my STB has started giving me problems. Now when i switch on my STB it wont start for almost three to four minutes. after that it starts. ive checked the power cord and all but the problem seems to be in the STB. Now how should i be approaching the problem? if i call the tata sky personnel then would they be charging me for the visit? AFAIK the STB is not my property. then why should i be charged? or would you guys advise to visit the local reseller , or the local electrician? I recently subscribed to a semi annual pack.. and this problem cropped up the very next day.

I am also thinking on the lines of upgrading my connection if the technician,s visiting charges are more. (But considering the fact that i would rather upgrade to an HD and TS+ enabled STB i want to hold on till that becomes available).

Would you guys advise me to register a complaint via internet (my tata sky)
cos as of now im not sure if this is a hardware problum or some firmware bit gone bad?

Also by any chance anyone else experiencing the same?

Electronic components fail - sometime or other. The reasons could be many. The most common reason is heat fatigue and dust. I suggest that you open the STB and blow away the dust.

If necessary call the technician. Yes, they will charge for the visit. Whether the STB is your property or not is not the point. A service person is supposed to make a visit and these are the charges for services rendered. The point is how much is being charged.

If you are going to switch to HD/TS+ soon, then you may hold off. But it is otherwise worth paying for the service charges as long as it is not exhorbitant.

Technician visit is charged by all Co's this phenomenon is across the DTH industry and also I have used other dish service for internet purpose where charges were applied for tech visit. In warranty the component(hardware) will be replaced, out of warranty charges will be applied. It is also good as suggested by J4K to maintain the STB by cleaning it up once in a while. The charges for tech visit should be standardized.

One can also sign an annual maintenance contract for all CPE. The AMC includes:

    a) Free visits by technicians
    b) Dish re-alignment (this happens quite often especially during strong thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds).
    c) General check up
    d) Some AMCs also cover the parts for repair but AMC amount goes up.

Does this means during the AM contract period technician visit will not be charged?

When i had asked the installation engr what will be the replacement charges of an stb out of warranty he tolde me it would be 350bucks only. I have also came across a post from one subscriber where he was charged the same amount 350 even though it was out of warranty.
Within the warranty period the replacement would be free.

*However, i also came across a person who had to pay ~1280 bucks for it to be replaced (but it was apparently earlier than the one who paid 350) so i know all this is very confusing but its just for your info.

And the stb IS your property, the dish isn't.

And yes you can place the complaint via the tata sky account management and prevent the hassle of calling their cc.
    DON'T beam me up, Scotty!

Thats nice because I have earlier stated technician visit is charged but there can be exception such as going for AMC so depending on personal choice one can benefit from AMC regardless of the number of times tech visit is required.
