Default I have switched to TataSky

Today, I switched my DTH provider from DishTV to TataSky.

It is not as if I was unhappy with DishTV except that I thought that it is time to see whether grass is greener on the other side.

Plus I wanted HD and I checked the prices.

    a) The TataSky Megalite Pack is Rs. 5500 for the year as opposed to the DishTV TruHD (ha-ha) Royale Pack at Rs. 550 per month.
    b) I got rebate of Rs. 500 each (total Rs. 1000) on main+child connection also.
    c) The child connection (HD too) is rs. 1760 per annum instead of DishTV's Rs. 250.

On the loss side, DishTV was willing to upgrade the existing connection for Rs. 2100 per HD STB. I had to pay Rs. 2599 for TataSky HD STB each.

But I think that I still am on the black side of the books.

For me one of the few reasons I never tried any other connection (Apart from Airtel DTH briefly) is the Tata sky's remote and their menu. I find all other DTH providers menu a bit less user friendly or may be I am too used to tata sky although Airtel's wasent bad but their customer service guys are outright "rude" from the little interaction I had with them.

Finally, after the long wait you shifted to Tata Sky. How's your overall experience compared to Dish TV? In terms of actual HD channels and not fake truehd channels of Dish tv.

You were planning to buy a LCD/LED tv if I remember correctly, so which one you settle for?

Btw: Congrats for the purchase and hope the experience gets better and better.

I am still enjoying Airtel TV, though I agree the customer care is lousy but they are offering maximum HD channels right now and I got a superb offer I was not able to resist.

PS: The dishtv setbox, antenna is still with me . No idea what to do with it.

I am experiencing better quality definitely. Whether this is due HD-STB or TataSky, I am not sure.

But since I am still with CRT TV, I am inclined to say that TS video quality is a shade better - I would say about 10% improvement. I cannot comment on the upscaled DishTV HD channels - but TataSky HD channels are really HD except for StarPlus HD. I fed the STB output via HDMI to my AVR and projector. This is my observation:

    a) Star Plus HD: When I was watching it was definitely upscaled content. So I will say that TS provides a mix of true HD and upscaled HD.
    b) Star World HD: Real HD.
    c) Star Movies HD: Real HD.
    d) Star Cricket HD: Real HD.
    e) Nat Geo HD: Real HD.
    f) Discovery HD: Real HD.
    g) Star Gold HD: Mix of Upscaled and Real HD.
    h) ESPN HD: Real HD.

I have not yet purchased a lage flat screen TV as yet.

Not correct. TataSky is not the first. DishTV existed at least a year and a half before TS.

The first DTH service in India (I think) was DD Direct Plus.

I dont know why but tata sky dont charge me for installations or for moving tata sky from one room to the other and stuff like that. They have me marked as premium customer for some reason... May be too many boxes I dont know.
