Default Tatasky Signal gets disrupted during the rains...

Tatasky signal gets disrupted during a heavy rain shower and this is quite a frequent scenario, especially in this season. Their helpline numbers are not at all helpful as it takes a long time to get through to someone.
Wonder if any one has any suggestions to counter disrupted dish signals?

This is not normal as far as my opinion goes. I have got a tata sky connection here in Delhi and I have never seen a problem with rain or rough weather in general although it doesnt rain that heavy here at NewDelhi. I also have a sky connection in UK and it rains almost every other day but I have never seen any problem during rains over there either.

I suggest you call their customer care and ask them to send someone to check if your dish is installed properly and see if there is any play between the joints coz thats the only thing I can think of that might be causing disturbance.

I also have Tata Sky and I have never faced any kind of problem with the service no matter what the weather is like. Recently it has been raining heavily in Delhi and all throughout the rain the service was normal. It is a possibility that your dish may not be fixed correctly, like Admin has mentioned it is worth a try to call the Tata Sky customer service.

In Kerala I've seen the same problem with many users. It's not the problem of positioning of dish. But here in North I've never experienced the same.

Does anyone have an explaination for this issue which occurs more often in South as compared to North? Could it be something to do with the location of the satellite which creates a steeper angle as we go south?

1. The reason for this interruption is called " Rain fade" which is common satellite snetwork using Ku-Band system (12/14 GHz or higher frequencies) . It is due to the absorption of micro wave frequencies by rain drops. Which is predominant is high frequencies.

2. Both uplink and down links are affected by rain. The effect of rain fade is related with the "Look Angle " of antenna, which is varying from place to place within satellite foot print.

3. In normal practice it is seen that the technicians of are aligning the Antenna with out using the signal strength meter. They align the system through practice only. To over come the rain fade following suggested.
(a) Alignment of antenna with signal strength meter where maximum signal strength is available.
(b) If the rain fade is much more predominant and annoying then try to use bigger antenna. A 6 feet fiber dish will cater the same. It will give guaranteed result. ( if required I'll try to get the literature of alignment and positioning)

(c) Use some type of rain fade free Ku Band antennae ( Not sure which is available in India or not) .

4. Actually in South the frequency of rain is more and the service providers are required to look in this matter.
