I am good and everything is fine. I was not on line yesterday.

The reason why I like Dish TV is that they have not reclassified packages like TataSky (well, as yet anyway).

You should not go for brand name. You should go for who is the best.

In terms of signal quality, TataSky has a slight edge. Their STB interface is also much-much better.

DishTV has better package and plus they offer STB free with the Rs. 3990/- yearly subscription. They have more movies and music channels. In terms of Value for Money, DishTV is ahead.

As far as CC is concerned both are in the same boat.

Why don't you proceed as follows:

    a) Make a list of most wanted channels - those which you would like to watch, those your mom and others in the family would want, etc.
    b) The above list will more or less decide your package
    c) If you like more movies and music, DishTV has better offer in the Maxi package
    d) If you are not interested in sports (and cricket) TataSky has removed it and put it as an add-on package so you are not unnecessarily burdened.
    e) I have found DishTV web site and payment/renewals by Credit Card extremely comfortable. Maybe TataSky is the same also.

I feel that at this moment DishTV has a definite edge in terms of pricing. The only discount offer that I have heard from TataSky is that if a friend refers you (gives you referal codes), then you get one month free viewing while your friend gets 2 months free. Afterwards you can also refer friends and avail the free viewing offer. I do not know whether add-on packages are included in the free viewing offer.

Finally, on a 29" or a smaller TV, video quality difference will not be that evident.

Tata Sky vs Dish Tv is like Airtel vs BSNL.

The former(s) have slightly better service and quality but the later(s) have more value for money plans.

Tata Sky is much better than Dish TV, whether its the channels available or the features Tata Sky is the best to get, well worth the money spent on it.

I have both Tatasky (one year) as well as Dishtv(two years).

Dishtv offers more channels(especially from Zee)

Quality equal (understand Dishtv uses better technology)

Customer care and easy interactive response Dishtv way behind Tatasky. Usage/Billing information from Taasky excellent. Recharge procedure from Tatasky simple and good.

Am planning to convert into Tatasky multiple connection and give up Dishtv

Please refer this post from me: http://www.indiabroadband.net/dish-t...html#post36132

    1. I would tend to vote in favour of TataSky in terms of signal quality (slightly better).
    2. Recharge procedure is quite good with DishTV also. I used recharge facility only once but I find that paying by CC much more convenient and less problematic.
    3. I had to call CC just twice on issues - other times (twice) was for MOD. I could get thru to CC in little less reasonable time (5 mins) but my issues were resolved within a day or two.
    4. I always subscribe for a full year and that way I get two months discount. Because of this I rarely have to call CC at all.
    5. I am not planning to change from DishTV because for Rs. 4500/- pa (multi-tv maxi package with discount), I get to watch many more channels. For TS, I will have to pay Rs. 5250/- (again refer to the above link) and I will only get a few more channels.

If in future I buy a large screen LCD and I find quality not good enough, I may switch.

    thanks for this valuable post...

and i will go for tata sky only... coz there are few reasons behind that...

    1. My Parents are looking for Tata only.
    2. Service in my area is really good.
    3. Most of people in my area got Tata Sky Dish installed so means its providing good service in my area thats why its growing.
    4. I am impressed with the Brand Name.

I understand Tata is bit expensive than Dish TV in terms of monthly rental and installation but still 40-50 rupees never gonna pinch if it provides satisfactory service...

I hope Tata will not give problems like Sify..

Exclamation something more i would like to add

as far as quality of feed, both TataSky & DishTV are ahead of cablewallahs. its worth switching over to DTH than stay in cable, even though there has been some good improvement there.
prices have come down considerably now. I paid skyhigh to get my connection as i am one of the earliest in the country to switch over to DTH. I use TataSky and chose it for ONE specific reason over DishTV.
TataSky is serviced by TataSky incase of any technical problem. The seller of the settopbox has no hold on you after the sales. Isn't that a good thing, guys? The company takes care of servicing the connection. This was the reason I chose TataSky, and not because it is from Tata's.
DishTV is from Zee stable. They are also a good company. Why I did not chose this was because the whole show is serviced by the franchisees who sell, install and collect charge coupons ect. Incase the franchise goes bust, so is your connection till another franchisee takes up the risk of running business in your area. Franchise has to pay in advance to DishTV, so his thrust is to make his money.
I am saying this with because I had an opportunity to associate with a TataSky franchisee ( his job is ONLY to get connections, do marketing, find potential customers, hold stock of set top boxes and sell it directly to customers or to small dealers who can find their own customers in their areas). Hope you can see the difference between the two. Very few people are aware of this part of the business. Hope all of you find this posting useful. And this is not a promotional post on behalf of any operators. Or a biased post because I am a user of a particular brand.

i think the prices have fallen down to half now!
once they got their requisite numbers they dropped the prices to now around 1499/-. I have not yet cheked with my friend who has a distributorship for TataSky. But I have seen quite a few pamphlets with Rs.1499/-.
One thing I am impressed with TataSky is that the company is in charge of the Service and related things. Others like DishTV, SunTV etc the service is with the franchisee ( he is more like the cable operator in all aspects).
The franchisees do not have a brand to bother about, his only worry is his money invested and the profit he made. But for a company brand image, brand recall and retention of customer loyalty is of utmost importance. For a company it is NOT like a 'use and throw sanitary pad'.
But what I have found is many customers are worthless. They still crib about small things and bargain on it. this habit I have found the high society customers ( here these guys willing blow on a worthless whore in lakhs, but hesitate to spend Rs.250/- a month for family entertainment). Even if the cable operator spits on him, he will fall at his feet and beg him for what he wants. for these people Quality is not important, still stuck with quantity.

I thought it was good that people in India are becoming more demanding and want a good deal out of th money they spend..
Is trying to get the prices lowered bad?

Your statement about fanchises is fundamentally flawed. One cannot be become cost effective if your costs are not shared. A business needs to focus on its core area and outsource the non-core areas to those who may be better. The world's best run companies have franchises - McDonalds is a prime example. Yes, the business must make sure that customers do not suffer because of poor service.

This topic is about comparing DishTV and TataSky (cable does not count). I have been DishTV customer for over 2 years and I do not consider that they provide inferior service. I have always said that TS provides slightly better quality but DishTV provides "more for less".

And what is wrong in asking more for less? Also I am quite amused at your statement about entertainment - are you trying to generalize that customers (and you did say 'many customers') will spend lakhs on a whore but do not wish to spend on family entertainment?

DishTV and SunTv both seems to b in a hurry to get numbers. which is a must for all. problem is the company is happy to appoint franchisees to oversee the operations rather than assuming full responsibility. where will teh customers go if there is a technical hiccup. in TataSky's case the company handles it.
people of india still do not demand moneys' worth. they still like the trash. if a tatasky subscriber moves out of bombay and goes to kolkatta, he still get the service in the same subscriber id. normal documentation like change of address and intallation is all they need at the new place. other operators since handled by franchisees problems are bound to crop up.
i did not say lower price is bad.

Customer care of Tata is as bad or good as Dish TV. I have tata sky at home and you are put on hold for atleast 7-10 min before they pick up the call.

Offlate, Tata sky is making the STAR sports/ESPN/Start cricket as paid channels. THis wont go down with the viewers very well especiall with Big TV launch coming up in Dec.

I have DishTV and its good. The only bad thing I can think of besides the nagging ●Active logo(on channels like sports, movies etc) is non user friendly menu(just like their website).

Every year on Dec 31, my Dish Tv comes up for renewal and every last 2 years I thought about switching to TataSky but have not found a compelling reason to do so. If TataSky waved off installtion and STB charges (on account of my switching) I may have considered it.

Then TataSky brought in the channel package seggregation and that put me off to some extent. I am getting reasonable good quality signal and I have no real complaints against the CC - in fact I rarely had to go to them. So "never fix anything that ain't broken" rule applies.

I have the following compalints though:
    • Rain outage is more on DishTV than TataSky.
    • The user interface is not good.
    • There is a one/two second delay when you switch channels.
    • The electronic program guide is quite unfriendly.
    • As vishnus89 said, the ●Active logo is irritating - but so is the case with TS also.
    • Till date, I have never recieved a payment receipt - electronic or paper.

I forgot to say few details I guess it’s because I am used to it by now.

    ● Dish TV’s interface was the best before they upgraded.
    ● It was simple and easy for anyone to understand (anyone who read the manual).
    ● Dish TV’s ads were so catchy that I couldn’t wait to get updated.
    ● I mean glossy vista like interface and real-time news and stuff like that.
    ● All I am getting now is a Turbo C++ like visual interface (may be its because my TV is not good).
    ● It's not very difficult if you use windows OS.
    ● I never ever used any of the ‘Active Services’ yet.
    ● I don’t know why anyone would use it.

    (I exaggerated a little OKAY.)

I would still like to get the old interface back if there is way. If anybody know a way to do it please share.

I really don't care to wait and happy to for 7-10 mins coz atleast i get satisfactory answer or resolution after waiting for 7-10 mins but in case of other providers like sify need to wait for hours and hours due to the wrong information, which one is better waiting on phone for 10 mins or sitting back idle and waiting for hours or days with wrong information.

    Default Cable tv.

Cable TV provider is better than all these DTH Service providers. I am well satisfied with Hathway who are my Cable TV providers.

@Radhakrishnan, advise you not to use email id as a user name in any forum including this one. Spamming sites have crawlers that get email id's from various web pages and forums.

Since smoothvibes has already subscribed to TataSky, the poll is now closed.

I have been using Tata sky and am very happy with the service (it appears that the polls validate my sentiment). I went for Tata Sky because of the Tata brand. The Reliance is only after your money, tata get you quality.

I have been a Dish Tv user for a very long time. I was initially very happy with the service but it has gone down drastically. They are trying to improve to face stiff competition from tatasky and big tv. On face of it, Tata sky looks very good if you consider all the parameters and not only the cost. Dish Tv needs to work real hard.

It depends upon your personal experience with customer care, even if you compare tata sky is no way near to dishtv in any respect:
    dishtv has more no. channels
    dishtv has better entry offers
    dishtv has more economical packages.
dishtv has more regional content then any other DTH
having more music channels then tata sky
having all good channels in their bouquet and that too on very affordable rate
dishtv is really value for your money and many more advantage.

If you talk about service just check on website of CORE , where in an all india survey on customer service and satisfaction ---- tata sky ranked No.1 IN POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND CUSTOMER SATISFACTION.

This is in reference to the previous post about DISH and TATA Sky. About the quality, Tata Sky wins hands down. About the no of channels, agreed that Dish has more channels but what channels are those. Mostly non descript zee channels which no one watches any ways. So this point is not valid. I conceded about the number of music channels. It is low cost, but what is the point of having low cost stuff if it comes with a bad service? To be honest, I am a TS user and cannot comment on Dish Tv but I know some things from my friend's experience.

I am a very old customer of Dish Tv and have seen the service go down the drain. I am planning to take TS service for my second TV. Hopefully, i shall be able to give you a judgment based on my own experience. I am looking forward to TS (I really hope for a good exp. My fingers are crossed).
