yes you can purchase any good router for this and that shoud work fine for you in normal PPPoE mode. but still you need the CPE to be there and better idea is to speak to wimax cust care once and they can provide you a supported wireless router otherwise they will not provide you any tech support for your own router

I have a tata wimax connection and I use a netgear wireless router with it and its working just fine.

Its no different then any other connection... just use a router like you would on any other connection.

There are no settings... its straight farward.

Plug the CPE cable into the router> connect router the computer (cable or wireless) and thats it. You should get the tata indicom login page as it is with no problems atall.

Just set pc to get ip and dns automaticall and set up router to use your computers mac address.

Do give me a shout if there is still an issue.

Hey Man....

I have recently purchased a wireless router Make – Netgear and Model no. WGR614v9. I am facing problem in configuring the router. I had called the customer care also but they could not provide any support with respect to router configuration. I tried myself following things and require your expertise to solve the issue.

I am able to login to the router configuration setup. At basic settings I have done following things which are explained in detail

1. In the first field if I select “YES” against Does your Internet connection required A Login I receive a form in which I have filled the login details.

If I test the connection, the same gets failed i.e. I am unable to connect to internet.

2. Then I selected “NO” against Does your Internet connection required A Login at the initial field.

Now when I click on Test, it gets successful and I am redirected to Tata Indicom Broadband login page where after entering the required information, the internet gets connected.

But if I shut-down the system and restart it again when required, again I am unable to connect to net. It does not redirect to login page. Then I have to login to router and on basic settings need to click on test. Then it redirects me to the login page.

Please help me in configuring the router. I have seen and checked your post with zip file to download.

thanx A TON

regards,
Ashish

Yeh that would help.

nivin your CPE's ip is :
169.254.1.1

I am not too sure why would you need to configure your modem. Its the router you need to worry about.

ashuashi ,

Its a known issue and I get that as well... all I do is click on refresh a few times and I get the login page... some times I just call up customer service and scream and shout at some innocent soul and that eases my blood preassure level and with then the login page shows itself.

I have learned to deal with this **** now so I guess you just need to get used to this crap.

hi all

well as advised by admin i am using reliance wimax connection thru my linksys wrt54g2 router and i have no issues what so ever, this how u have configure the router and share as many pcs/laptops u desire in the same permises. here is how u need to do that. Once u are done do not forgetto thank me.

To summarize: (in non-tech jargon)

Make sure that your Computer is configured with Dynamic IP.
You can check this by going to Control Panel> Network > Local Area Connection > Properties > Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) > Properties > Select obtain IP address automatically.
Now do the following:

1. Connect the cable from WAN port of the WRT54G2 to the Laptop LAN-port.
2. On a fresh page (Mozilla or IE or Chrome), type 192.168.1.1(this is ip address of the ur router) in address-bar.
3. Login as admin(user id)/admin(password) and Under Setup >>> Basic Setup ,Change the Local IP Address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.2.
4. Under Setup >>> MAC Address Clone >>> Enable >>> Click “Clone your PC’s MAC” . Then Save settings.
5. Connect the CABLE coming out of Reliance Modem to the Router Internet port.
6. Insert the CD that comes with the linksys router, it will take u threu the steps and u will connected
7. Once done , click "Go wireless" , the CD will do the rest for u.
8. Remove the wire from the router and ur laptop.
9. Open the page reliancebroadband.com Homepage or tata indicome page

PS== i donot switch off the modem that is provided by Reliance Wimax. I only swtich off the router.

All the Best...

if both laptops have wifi, can't a simple ad-hoc wifi connection with the option to share the internet connection solve the problem?

Hey Buddy,

You can't share the net using switch.

For that you need wireless router.

You can go for linksys or netgear cost from 3000/- onwards.
