Angry Are we getting Cheated by TI?

    Hi all,

I recently got a Tata Indicom Wimax and started to use it.

Wimax connected to my Netgear router. Have my laptop and wifi enabled Blackberry and Nokia Phone. I mainly intend to use wifi in my wireless devices.

Now, if i need to connect my blackberry and nokia phone, i need to turn on my laptop and do a web login and keep my laptop on 24 hours. This defeats the whole purpose of taking a broadband connection and using a wireless router.

On contacting the customer support they asked me to purchase static ip in order to remove the login page. I refuse to pay extra money for the static ip as
    1. Im not using it for official purposes like conneting to office vpn which might require static ip
    2. Im not hosting any website at my house.

So why should we pay Rs.2100 + taxes extra for something that I dont use?

I feel that Tata Indicom guys are out there cheating the general public by selling something (static ip) that isnt useful for normal broadband users as many users are not aware that purchasing static ip isnt necessary for any broadband connection. Tata indicom support has told me that they would contact me on this, but if i dont hear back from them, what steps can we take? Have other users in this forum faced similar problem?

Again the login page and the problems associated with it comes as a surprise for users who have used other broadband services.

Hi slgprakash, I too have Tata Wimax connected to my netgear router. However i am not using my Nokia N82 for web browsing. Tata always prompts for the login page. This can be disabled by enabling NAT, i think. Does anybody have any idea if there is any relation with Static IP in this regard? I don't think so. Moreover i am able to work on VPN without using static IP (even though i got it free!!). I think tata ppl are doing some Marketing here. Try to call up the CC once again and ask for clear information. Mail them across and seek confirmation over mail. Escalate to Nodal officers, if required.
It's a customer requirement and they have to fulfil. There is no question of paying extra for this.

I have skype on Nokia N82 and O2 atom life. Very convenient to chat from there when you have wifi connection.

I have called up customer care, nodal officers and done everything i could. But they all ask me to "BUY" the "FREE Static IP".

Some companies require that, while most dont. Depends on how your vpn is setup. BTW how did u get that "FREE" static ip?

I agree with you. They cant force me to pay higher for the plan with "FREE static IP" when i dont have the need for that "FREE" stuff. According to me, they should have atleast tested with different routers so that we are able to enter these login credentials in the routers and do an automatic login when we access the internet. Alternatively they can even do a login by storing the details in their modem (hardware) which they install or authenticate based on the unique id of the hardware which is installed inside every house.

The way i have been using BB all these years before switching to TI -> Turn on the modem, wifi router and you start using internet without having the need to login.

Hi, I took the connection in June 2008. At that time, they were giving static IP for free. But till now, I haven't used the IP.

    Default yes, its official

Hi guys, just an update from me.

Have spoken to nodal officers and TI technicians. They all want me to purchase the static ip.

I can see there are many ignorant users of TI out here who are "Paying" for the static IP!!!

Lets take this equation: with static IP you pay 1375 + 10.3% taxes = 1517 per month for a 384 kbps connection!! Leave you guys to compare it with other operators where u can get 1 mpbs for an additional 200Rs per month.

I feel that i have been cheated by TI marketing guys who said it is possible for me to connect my wifi devices without the need of login page by configuring the wifi router to connect via pppoe mode. So guys out here speaking about PPPoE, well listen, TI Wimax without static ip, is not possible to disable the login page.

Guys tell me will going to the consumer court will help? Or can someone suggest what is the next step i need to take?

    thanks in advance.
