Thread: Need help in Tata WiMAX + Linksys ADSL router WAG54G2

I have googled many links and saw the famous Reliance connection over WiMAX thread also....

All talk of one thing --> connect the cable FROM modem TO ADSL internet 'IN port' i.e. connecting wireless/wireline Router AFTER modem...which I dont seem to have (

NOW if that cable would have been there - everything would have been easy !!!

I have Tata WiMAX installed yesterday (from adsl) so THEY installed and gave below items --

1. PoerDsine 3001 - POE device - I dont think this is modem

2. Ethernet cable RJ45 coming from terrace (Receiver or CPE - customer premise equipment) to POE,
3. Ethernet cable RJ45 coming from POE to PC

ipconfig/all --> part of it....

I tried pinging 192.168.1.1 , 192.168.1.2 - BOTH pings OK !! they do get reply form them ...

I tried telnet 192.168.1.1 80 - cursor goes off in command window
I tried telnet 192.168.1.2 80 - cursor goes off in command window
- means something is running on these ports !!!
Finally - I tried ping 10.184.90.1 - It gets reply as well.
telnet 10.184.90.1 80 - cursor goes off ...also.

I want to know below questions?
1. Have they installed modem here? I asked for router - they said NO.
2. do Tata WIMAX guys give modem surely? - if YES I can call them and ask for one...

3. I can't get http colonslashslash 192.168.1.1 / 2 / 10.184.90.1 - any idea why ???
I tried https:// also ....

4. everytime I get same IP 10.184.90.254 and same gateway 10.184.90.1 - is it OK?

That rectangular box from where the cable comes into your PC is the modem. Tata wimax guys dont supply routers.

You already have the modem.. that black thing or what you call POE is the modem.

As long as the internet is working you are fine...

You can use a router on this connection. Just take out the cable that goes into your computer and stick it into the router and used the IP and subnet mask and all those details that Tata provided to configure your router and you are good to go... shouldnt take more then 5 mins.

3. Ethernet cable RJ45 coming from POE to PC

This cable will go to WAN(Internet )Port of WAG54G2.
Connect from LAN1 another RJ45 to computer.
just set dynamic DHCP..save & restart dlink/
confirm you get connected.
Wifi mode later.

BUT that is the main problem...
"This cable will go to WAN(Internet )Port of WAG54G2." - My Router doesn't have any WAN port .. its Linksys WAG54G2
PROBLEM is - I dont have the device like shown in your LINK-Image..(given by Reliance in that case )

as shown in attached image.. I have only 4 RJ45 ports and one ADSL port RJ11.

On my apartment terrace - there is receiver..and then it gives RJ45 cable directly --> connected to powerDsine 3001 box (it's out port). ---> it's IN port is connected to my PC.

- just incase i have to do any settings there.

anyways I don't need wifi mode right now... but is it possible to use that Router with this connection !!

error regretted.WAG54g2 is an adslmodem +wifi router.

Option 2:
Try Lan 1 as input port and hope for the best !
Make all PVCs "Bridged"
Model is similar to Beetel 450TCI ( menu pages )
Expect wifi router to work as a switch and Lan2 to
computer may work.
If Ok wifi can be checked.

Option 3 :
If you have Windows 7 as OS, an application called
Connectify is installed in the laptop. Wimax input required.
Then this laptop will work as access point to other systems
in immediate vicinity.
