Question How do you do port forwarding using Tata Indicom connection?

I have been using Tata Indicom Wimax connection from last 3 months. I am using BitComet to download torrents from various sites. But the downloading is very slow even though there are sufficient seeds and peers. I came accross "Port Forwarding" and heard that once you do this, the speeds will increase. I tried this technique with the instructions given at portforwarding.com. There, you can find how to forward ports for different routers. But I didn't find the router which Tata Indicom gives us (PowerDSine 3001), which is manufactured by a company called "Telsima". But this particular company's router has not been listed in portforwarding.com. I tried various other ports also. But its of no use. If you people out there have any techniques to boost the download speed particularly for bitComet, then please help me out.

And also, there is a yellow light at the bottom of the application saying Blocked: 59.164.106.11 next to the green light which says DHT Connected: 1409. Can anyone please explain how to turn it green:

Thanks

I had the same problem with my WiMax connection. My ip was dynamic and was allocated by dhcp. I called the Tata guyz who gave me a static ip and the problem seems to be solved now. The status of utorrent has changed from that red exclamation to green. Testing the port at portforward.com showed it was being forwarded properly, while it was being blocked when the ip was dynamic. Call up customer care to get ur static ip, ur torrents speed shud improve. If not, the torrent has too few seeds probably.

But how do you check out the port forwarding for this particular router(Power Dsine 3001)? It would be really helpful if you provide me with the steps as to what exactly have you done. Right from calling up the Tata people to checking up port forwarding at portforwarding.com.

If u r using utorrent, look for the info bar at the bottom of the application. There shud be a status icon next to the "DHT" status. If all's well, it should be a green tick. If its a red exclamation or yellow triangle it means the port is not forwarded. Double click on the green/red/yellow icon top open the "Speed Guide" window. Click the "Test if port is forwarded" button. It should open a browser windows and tell you if the port is open or not.

As for Tata Indicom, I haven't found out how to enable port forwarding in the router after lots of googling however if u r having a postpaid connection u shud receive a static ip. If they have assigned a dynamic ip (as in my case) call up customer care and demand ur static ip, they will provide one after u give them the necessary details. Normally all the ports are open for a static ip ( i think)...

Thanks bro. I got the static IP from the Tata guys and used the same. Now the port is open and am getting good speeds. But sometimes, the port gets blocked and I dont know why, but speeds will be pretty much the same. And I read in one of the portforward.com forums that if the IP is same as that of the IP displayed at portforward.com, then no need of portforwarding. Mine is the same. So happy. Thanks again...

Manish, a static IP address is a number (in the form of a dotted quad) that is assigned to a computer by an Internet service provider (ISP) to be its permanent address on the Internet.

Many Internet service providers limit the number of static IP addresses they allocate, and economize on the remaining number of IP addresses they possess by temporarily assigning an IP address to a requesting Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) computer from a pool of IP addresses. The temporary IP address is called a dynamic IP address.

Hope this helps!
