Default Multiple users with tata wimax and wireless router

    Hi there
I got Tata WiMax two days ago, 256kbps (tho torrents max is 25kbps always)

I have two laptops and one login/password. How do i get both of them to connect to tata wimax at the same time? I have a netgear wireless router. Also, do i need a static IP to do this?

    Thanks

Your modem must be configured in PPPoE mode for multiple connections. You do not need static IP.

Please read the many guides in "Broadband How to" section.

    Thanks
Is this the best one for my problem?
"Solution for multiple machines connecting to same BB connection"

Also, what are my VCI and VPI numbers?

Lastly, and I ask since you did the tutorial, tata wimax asks for a user, a network and a password each time. Will PPPoep let me enter all three fields? Note that the net work is selected from a drop down box and i have to pick vsnl.in as one of the options

Now, a new question for members. I had MTNL and i got 25kbps max on azureus on a Mac. I tried everything including port forwarding and still got 25kbps. I then switched to TATA WiMax and still get 25kbps max. Do i need port forwarding on a wimax connection? Is 25kbps normal?
If I d/l one file, i get 25kbps, if i d/l two, the 25kbps is split between the files being downloaded so the total still stays 25kbps.
Does any one have any solution since I;ve tried for three months to break the 25kbps barrier

    thanks

Ur lucky if u get 25 consistently... am using wimax 256 nd utorrent and sometimes it crawls down to single digits :| but sometimes it reaches 30... thats about the max u wud get on a 256 connection... it really depends on the number of high speed seeds u r connected to...

If you are not getting proper speed on Wimax first please check signal on your PoE, for good or proper signal strenght 3rd, 4th or 5th light from bottom should be on for good signals.
If you are not getting proper signal then you need to manually adjust your outdoor CPE to gain good signal strength.

If you are getting proper speed on direct downloads then you can go for port forwarding, for me wimax is providing about 35-40kbps transfer rate on utorrent.

which modem you are talking about, for wimax we really don't need any modem. If you want to connect 2 or more computers then you need a router and if you are talking about router then please post your router details like name and model number.

I have a one week old Tata wimax connection in Bangalore. I have a Netgear WGr614 v7 wireless router. I would like to configure it with my wimax connection in such a way that I am able to access net from my laptop as well as my Desktop (The Wimax is connected to desktop currently).
I have asked for a static IP, which has been provided to me. I have configured the static IP on the Netgear page. What do I need to do to the LAN connection settings? And how can I eliminate the login page? I logged a complaint for this, was told it will be done within 24 hours. Not yet done.

If u want to share your connection between two PCs, u can checkout Reference Guide on How to Share DataOne Connection.... - Digit Online Technology Discussion Forum It is meant for dataone users, but once u get connected, the rest of the procedure is same.

I dont think pppoe mode cannot be implemented for those connections for which we need to manually dial out the connection using browser interface..

    Dear users,

Our objective: Sharing tata wimax connection between 2 or more computer (Ideal situation, one desktop and one laptop)

Tools used: Tata wimax connection, Any wifi router, Desktop (with LAN connectivity), Laptop (With wifi connectivity) and patience.

Step 1: We assume that you are able to connect to the internet through your desktop. Desktop is directly connected to your CPE (One that Tata has provided you) through LAN cable.

Step 2: Take your wifi router and switch it on. Take the LAN cable out of your desktop and insert in your Wifi router's input port (WARNING* Insure that its an input port, generally all routers have 1 input port and 3 + output port, so it should be easy to find)

Step 3: Now your Wifi router is connected to your CPE. Take another LAN cable and insert it in any of the output ports of your wifi router, insert other end to your Desktop.

Step 4: If your Desktop shows Local Area connection as connected, skip to Step 5. If it does not connects or shows limited connectivity, go to properties of your Local area connection, TCP / IP , properties and set for obtain IP address automatically. If still not able to connect, throw your machine out of window and then jump from a building.

Step 5: Reset your router if you have done something whacky with it in past, otherwise we are good to go. (Do a hard reset, there should be small button on your router which you have to press for couple of seconds while router is on. It will reset your router to its factory settings)

Step 6: Go to your router's home page (Generally, 192.168.1.1) via a browser. Page will prompt for a user ID and password. Don't worry, google for the default password of your router (Generally USERid: Admin Password : admin / blank).

Step 7: Here comes the variation. What I am trying to do is essentially is same for all the routers but the ways of doing it varies depending on the router's make. For our experiment lets take Linksys WRT series.

Step 8: Once we are logged in to our Linksys router we will try to A: Do the INTERNET SETUP. B: Do the LOCAL NETWORK setup.

Step 9: If you dont have a static IP (If Tata has not informed you that you have a static IP then you dont have a static IP, anyways confirm with your TATA helpdesk).
In your routers setup page - > Basic Setup - > Internet connection type - > Select - > Automatic configuration DHCP. You may ignore rest other fields.
Network setup - > Network Address Server Settings (DHCP) - > Enable. Ignore other fields down below, unless you are feeling lucky.
<Save settings>. Router will inform you that your setup is saved.
If you have a static IP , Instead of selecting Automatic configuration DHCP, select Static IP, and provide the info (Internt IP address, subnet mask, Gateway.. blah blah). Network setup should be same as above.

Step 10: Power on your Laptop. Make sure your laptops Wireless antenna is on. Search Available wireless network. The one with your router's default name is one which you have to connect. (As we have not setup the security, prompt will say that this is an unsecured connection, do you still want to connect, hell yeah! I spent 2 hours setting this thing up..)

Step 11: Try connecting to internet through your laptop and desktop and let me know if it works.

Important: Setting up your wirless router security is as important as locking your house. Youe router can be used for your illegal activities and stealing your data. I will cover the security part if anyone is able to connect using this tutorial)
Also, sorry to Dlink, Netgear and other router users, I have linksys routers only so I took example of Linksys.

Guys let me know if it helps.

i called customer care, told wanna use multiple systems and dont want to use dial up web page..with in half an hour they did changes and informed me as they did Natting and enabled DHCP on CPE.

dialing up each time got resolved, when i switch on CPE it connects automatically.

    for multiple PC/laptopos to connect.

cable from CPE, i have connected to one of 4 switch ports on my Linksys wireless router which i bought for BSNL.

On linksys, changed PPoE to Bridged mode, disabled DHCP gave linksys ip as 192.168.1.2, since 1.1 is is tata indicom CPE, thats all all 5 systems working (for wireless to work cofigure on linksys)fine since 4 months.....no issues.
    -------------------
or get a 8 port switch(arond 4 to 5 hundred), connect cable from CPE to any of the port and remaining ports to computers...works fine.
any one want details steps let me know..
