Default Problem with websites whilst downloading from torrents

    Hi folks,
I have recently taken the Tata Wi Fi internet connection at 512kbps. I live at a hostel and the whole hostel is Wi Fi enabled. So you receive the signal. However, to login to the internet we require a username and password. That's it for the background. Now, the problem.
I have gone through various posts about problems on downloading from torrents. However, my problem is slightly different. I have no problem in downloading from torrents. I get ok-ok speeds depending on the number of seeds and peers. However, whilst downloading from torrents I can't surf websites. The moment I pause the torrents download, bang my websites load as normal as ever !

I decided to do the standard test using U-torrent and this is what it showed me, "Checking port 47927 on 59.164.97.140...
Error! Port 47927 does not appear to be open."

I have few questions here :
    1. If the port is not open, how come I am able to download at a decent speed?
    2. How to make both of them work together ?

I have gone through the post of "Torrents and Port Forwarding Guide" on this forum.
It couldn't help much as I don't know the address to log in to my router.
    192.168.1.1 isn't my router address.

How could I find that ?

Any help in this regards would be great.
    Thanks.

this is because torrents usually utilize most of the bandwidth
so limit the bandwidth to surf net

Port isn't open means others can't connect to u, this prevents a lot of users to be ur peer so it can limit ur torrent speed, unless the torrent has high speed seeders... u have to forward the port so that it can be accessed by others...

    Thanks,
So how do I enable port forwarding?
As mentioned earlier, the router I use isn't a personal router and hence can't be accessed. Any means of finding out my router's address ?

I don't think that would be the case. I usually get around 64KBps while surfing and torrents take about 20-30KBps so half of the BW is not utilized.

Is there any means I can get my router's address?

to enable port forwarding, u have to contact the customer care and give them ur username (TATA). if NATing/port forwarind is done u would get a decent download speed 60-64 KBps on torrents too. without NATing, torrent tracker will not be able to track ur UL/DL, ratio etc...

Usually router's IP address would be set as ur default gateway.
