    Default Tikona WiBro New connection

I had requested for a Demo for Tikona’s WiBro service. The Demo apparetly failed to work due to lack of signal strength. So, I was suggested use of Ubiquiti’s ‘NANOStation2 loco’. It’s a piece of hardware that is installed on rooftop. Similar to Tata WiMax but only smaller and light-weight. It is connected with Ethernet CAT5 with POE function (Power Over Ethernet) as most Service Providers use these days.

WiBro is new to my place(Bangalore - Marthahalli). They have recently established their network at other places in Bangalore too. They focus on sales and would tell you exactly what need to hear to meet their Daily Targets. Their sales methods are horrible and they know it.

I had applied for Tikona WiBro Service on 05th April 2010. Provided my ID Proof, Address Proof, Passport Standard size photograph and a Demand Draft Rs.500 towards Tikona Digital Networks. The sales person promised me that the connection will be install the very next day. I called him next day, he wouldn’t answer and has the same attitude till date.

Once your application is processed the needed hardware is summoned from Mumbai or Chennai. Now not all sales representative would submit your applications the same day. They would submit a few and few the next day. This way they show an average sales per day (I know this cuz I’ve done this). You will get a SMS with Tikona login credentials and to use it within 15 days. It would take couple days after that to get your devices to the local Tikona Office. I got my login details the next day on 06th April 2010. (I felt so good to know that I was not a victim of fraud).

I was not answered or reach until 10th April 2010. This was the day I was pissed. I approached one of their office in Domlur. Spoke to one of their Area manager. He inspected my proof of purchase and sent out a technician immediately to install the NANOStation. The techie checked for Signal Strength in my location. Apparently It was weak. It was late and he said that he would need clear sunlight to set the NANO station in Line-Of-Sight with the closest Tower (AP).

So next day, at noon (with access to the richest sunlight and clear line-of-sight) he installed the device on roof top. The device was able to achieve 2 signals out of 4. My requested package was FUL799 (600kbps). As per their promises, I was a bait for 2mbps speed for the first 500MB data transfer(Download and Upload). After which I would be switched to my actual connection speed i.e; 600kbps DOWN and 256kbps UP. The Techguy used his demo account to check for connection stability. As it turns out, the connection was good enough.

    I’m using Windows 7 on my desktop. They would first Install Tikona WiBro Dialer on the system. Then a sytem reboot. I logged with my login details. Changed my password on first login. The Techie opened the Site: Speedtest.tikona.in to very the connection speed for my account. Now I wish I could post the details for that speedtest but I’m afraid I forgot to save it. As I recall the connection speed was 1.5mbps with download tranfer rate 195kbytes/sec. There after the connection speed suddenly switched to my basic plan. The Speed Tests are as following;

    Day;
    1st
Download Speed: 590 kbps (73.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 227 kbps (28.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
    Latency: 38 ms
    Sunday, April 11, 2010 5:07:20 PM

    2nd
Download Speed: 592 kbps (74 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 237 kbps (29.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
    Latency: 40 ms
    Sunday, April 11, 2010 5:08:30 PM

    3rd
Download Speed: 583 kbps (72.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 201 kbps (25.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
    Latency: 42 ms
    Sunday, April 11, 2010 5:37:19 PM

    Night
    1st
Download Speed: 552 kbps (69 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 231 kbps (28.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
    Latency: 42 ms

The WiBro dialer worked for 3-4days on Win7. Now When I try to login using the dialer I get an error Unable to connect or Authorization error. So I now connect to internet by accessing site: Login.Tikona.in. This site would also let you check your session summary, download WiBro dialer, change your password, etc...

Although the connection speed and rates are eye-candy, there are a few demerits to this connection. One of which is that you cannot connect multiple system to internet at the same time. Your login will be used by one system at one time. So far its either One or the other.

For torrent users, the port forwarding functionality is currently disabled by default. Despite the download transfer rates is 40-70kbytes/sec.

There is still more to explore... Tikona hasn't been an easy connection for alot of users. But thats their story.

    Default Greetings!!

Yes its it a fact that tikona was facing connectivity issues
But I would say they have improved a lot in terms of service and connectivity.
I was told not to opt for tikona by many friends which I thankfully didnt listen to
From the start I am getting good speed as well as connectivity. (Even when I am roaming)
I can understand that u did have a bad experience,But again, that doesnt mean that every customer is facing the same problem.
If youre in hyderabad and in need of tikona connection, I would say its the best choice. With tikona's service improving day by day, I dont think I will change my service provider for a long time.

Mr.Narayana of tikona briefed me on how this technology works and how they are overcoming their shortcoming.
There are a few arrogant underinformed executives who dont even know how to behave with their clients.
However, I was approached by Mr.Narayana, who was very polite and well informed with every minute detail of their service.

    Regards,
    Srrahman

    I'm using Win 7 64-Bit. Same nanostation.

I never installed any dialer or any of their garbage software.

As soon as I connect the cable it shows a pop up box at my taskbar saying "Additional log in information required" I click that, Internet EXPLODER loads up, I enter my username & password given by them & it Works!

I don't know why you were made to install some garbage software. Get rid of it.

And Port forwarding is active I get the green light in utorrent. I don't do any of that port forwarding nonsense...my MTNL gives a red exclamation mark in utorrent I get 120-128 KB/s speeds with MTNL which I should get so I have no problem with that.

Other things said, their service is good but their internet is pathetic.

Go here, Pingtest.net - The Global Broadband Quality Test test yourself on Seoul & Los Angeles servers. You'll get Packet Loss of 5%-30% like everytime! It's BAD! Get rid of it!

Reliance wireless CDMA broadband is better than this.

    Hello Chandrakant!!

I am from Mahalakshmipuram and got their connection on 17th April 2010 and have FUL 599 (300 kbps) plan.

Pal, their netwrok surely sucks...but their reps were atleast good with me and expressed their helplessness on this.

I know that their n/w team sits @ Domlur office and they only know one answer for sure "We have checked the backend, and every thing is working fine"!!!! and Call center morons makes false promise of sending the complaing # over SMS and they know they will not lodged any.

I wish if there was a BB survey or anything that would really humiliate these guys so that they can act together and think about getting to the basics of BB business with a supportive infrastructure.

    Dear Chandrakant,
Please be vary of Tikona's accounting. Verify everything in writing. I terminated my contract after 3 disappointing days. After that the service was activated for a few days before totally breaking down. Their service staff is poorly trained and lack internal coordination. I finally got fed up and closed my account. Their recovery agent called up after a few months and I agreed to pay Rs.400 under protest. She promised to send me settlement letter, which was never done. After 3 months of making the 'final settlement', I am still getting calls for higher and higher payments. These guys are not only incompetent, they are also completely unethical. I am contemplating legal action against them.
    Beware !

the download speed is always consistent till now. there were no problems. it all depends on your router and antenna placement. If its kept in correct position, it will always give you consistent speeds. I get 1 Mbps all the time 24*7. I am on 1 Mbps Unlimited plan. And i download tons of movies. I did not have any problem till now. My upload speeds vary a bit. But my download speeds are always at 1 Mbps +

I am agree with all the complaints against TIKONA. I m using Tikona for nearly 6 months and I am not happy with my broadband speed, but plan charges are less that is why I am still using TIKONA. There are some problem with speed but I think this Tikona has more problem then other service provider. I called Toll free number 1-800-209-4276 to raised complaint, I came across one new options from Tikona i.e press 1 for technical support (I was accepting that this will not work) I followed the instruction to my surprise call was connected to Engineer, issue was resolved as there was some alignment issue, I was changing the position of CPE and the technical guy was guiding me that this is proper position as the device was catching maximum speed. Till know Net is working fine, hope this will continue. I am thankful for your assistance
