Thread: Good ISP ....

I don't know about other's stories but as far as my experience consider with tikona is good. Here is my story.

I applied for new 799 Connection on 21nd April 2010. The sales guys came to my place on 23th and showed me a demo which was pretty decent. I gave them a cheque of Rs 500/- he also told me that till 24th a guy will install the nanostation (A wireless Device which can catch the signal upto 2 Km) and my conncetion will be started. The technician guy came on 25th and installed the device but while installing it he told me that signal strength is not full. As it is a wireless connection thats why fluctuations do happens....
So my plan was 799 FUL( Fun Unlimited) in this Plan I am getting 2MBPS for First 400MB and 600Kbps for after 400 MB..... for every month.....
Till now its good. I got the speed up to 300Kbps for first 400 in that I managed to get up to 220 kBps for torrentz. Beyond that is usage I am getting 80-70 kBps for torrentz and for normal files above 75 to 110 kbps....

only bad thing happened yesterday.....I was out of connection for whole day. I registered my complaint to tikona CC and got the conformation for the same in 6HRS with issue solved.

The best thing about this ISP is I am not having static IP. That means my IP address gets changed after I sign out my session. Again for the next time new IP address. I am having fun on Rapidshare as it doesn't Track me.
So as far mine experience with tikona is good atlest till now....I hope it remains the same...

P.S. Please note that I am in the range of 1 km from there nearest tower. Probably that is the reason I am getting this signal Strength.

Does your speed drop to unbearable levels in the afternoons 1 pm onwards to 10 pm or so at night?

I'm facing that issue & my Nano-station is at 80% signal strength. Not an issue since I spoke with their installation guy in detail & anything above 30% signal strength is decent he said.

I am sorry to say but I am not from Mumbai, I am from Pune. And I don't face any problems as you mentioned. Also, the nearest tower of Tikona from my house is 1k.m may be that is the reason I am not facing this issue as you are. Do one thing. Call CC of Tikona and compaint about the bandwidth problem they will increase the bandwidth of your nearest tower.

Ahh come on Ashish that can hardly be the cause...

I'm getting decent speeds at night but in the day is crapped up big time.

Still....I'll give them a call & see how it goes.

Ashish no offence to you or anyone else on here who likes this garbage connection.

Maybe your in Pune and the net users from your Access Point aren't that much hence you face constant speeds etc.

My experience is pathetic.

I told the CC...your point of view...I even spoke to their Area General Manager....I explained to them your point of view they say they haven't even heard of that lol.

No problem I made a complaint regardless.

And I do sort off feel it's a bit better than before but nowhere as per the advertises plans.

Check - Seoul , Los Angeles & Norway servers.

Times morning, afternoon, evenings & night.

And kindly let me know off just 2 things from each server. The "Packet Loss" percentage/ number of packets lost out of 250.

And the Line Quality - C,D, F etc.

Thats my test at 7.35 am in the morning.

Afternoon, Evening it's the same Grade F. Packet loss goes as high as 29% at times! icky icky.

The only time I got 0% packet loss was from Seoul server at 3 am in the morning. Go figure.


All in all if your getting a good connection your plain lucky & I wouldn't count on it staying it that way.

Rest Tikona flat-out SUCKS!

and wht the actual speed do you get? I mean for Torrentz and all? (If you use)

Please test speed at different times /days at this website.
Disable other applications if running.
You get a record of the speed.

Yes! It's 0% packet loss! But the packet count came 249/250. It never EVER gives a perfect 250/250 score.


Anyway forget that. This just proves my point that at nights I have speed in day I don't, the reason is quite simple they don't have the bandwidth to supply & are over saturated.

Sorry for the late replies got a little busy.

I must say I'm very surprised now!!

For the past 5 days I get this perfect dedicated 600 kbps speed!?

I got 250/250 perfect score here! But only once lol that happened at 5 pm surprisingly!

Still I get score of 249/250 here usually!

That's right 1% packet loss only! lol. This is like now even afternoon,morning, night! Speed is constant now!!!


Packet loss now for all servers in the world is 0%-5% max!

I don't know what happened....I did no complain the complain which you asked me to do was like last week.

Yes I didn't use it for 5 days....coz I thought it's useless I will disconnect it...but I tried it a couple of days ago & wham! It's just soo perfect!!!

I think I will stick with them for 1 month more...I will upgrade my plan to 1 Mbps next month & see...if ever even 1 day I get that stupid packet loss. I bye-bye to them!

I'm doing some online game testing...it's going good with 16+ players. At times it's a bit laggy but that's due to 256 kbps upload speed. I wish they offered extra upload speed for extra cost even I would pay it.

Still very surprised now they getting their act together! I hope they keep it this way...they seem like a good company much better than MTNL/Airtel/Tata/Reliance etc.

Their call centre people are so understanding it's hard to believe your calling an Indian office lol...it's that cool...but like I said fingers crossed for now!

Happy to read that you are getting the committed speed.....I told u earlier only that they are good service provider but at times something goes wrong....but in the end each coin has Two sides.....So its acceptable.....
Also try this Go to run and type "Prefetch" and delete all the files, it will increase your net speed by some %s.
By the way for me its way 2 worse.....I tried to play online games (C.S) but for Games I must Say TIKONA SUCKS.....I am getting more than 600 Latency for BOMBAY(Mumbai) based server where as at my brother lives in same Area where I live he gets 37 to 40 Latency(TATA User). And as I am a hardcore gamer I am shifting to Reliance in July....As of now I am going to Mysore for training for 1 month.....got selected in Infosys....so will be out of touch from India broadband forum and from you.....you take care and Keep Posting...

Oh I don't know about Bombay server.

I game on Europe UK, Amsterdam, Belgium! & USA - New Jersey, Los Angeles server!

My ping times are like 200 - 450 ms for these servers!

Still I game perfect. IMO ping times are over-rated etc. Unless you see lag in gameplay there's no problem IMO.

Playing with 16 players it's a bit jittery but with 12 players it's perfect no problem. I even have voice chat occasionally.

I'm not playing Counter Strike though I'm playing another shooting game but the procedure is same.

Another game I play online racing one with 12 + players all's good no lag...

Yes at times it gets jittery but for like 5-10 seconds maximum this happens like once maybe every 15- 20 minutes.

I hope this stays like this...Like I have told you before if it starts acting weird I will quit it.

Edit - Not so hopeful then 8 pm test I'm getting packet loss off like 11% - 17% max.

Unacceptable but after a re-test its down to 3-8% fishy yeah...I'll game a bit online at this time & tell about my exprience...surfing is decent...I dont notice any lag while surfing multimedia rich sites either....oh well getting a bit complicated now.

8 pm is the peak time I suppose.

SO must be having GOOD TIMES....LOL
Happy to see the results.....also for online gaming try and disable as much applications as you can so your system will run smooth....also delete cookies and offline content often for better online gaming results....so for a Gamer like me I am quite OK with lagging and other stuff but the problem is that I can't play CS online at all. Hey by the way can you name out which games you play online.....even I am thinking to give a shot
