    Default Jim Corbett National Park

Jim Corbett National Park is one of the world’s best natural parks. The national park is located in India. It has been named after the renowned conservationist Jim Corbett who was earlier a hunter.

Jim Corbett himself was a major help in the establishment of this park. The park is the oldest natural conservation in India. It was first known as Hailey National Park when it was first established in the year, 1936.

The national park is situated in the Nainital district of the Uttarakhand state in India. Usually the park is treated as a nationally protected area meant for the conservation of the endangered Bengal tiger of India. It is one of the most successful measures taken in Project Tiger, which is an Indian wildlife protection initiative.

The national park is specially noted for its sub-Himalayan belt geography and ecology. It is a leading ecotourism destination in the country. The park has around 488 different types of plant species. The Sal forests are has the highest tree density and the Anogeissus-Acacia catechu forests have a lower density of trees. The tree basal cover in total is actually greater in the Sal dominated area where there is more woody vegetation.

The park is also known for a healthy seedling layers and sapling regeneration in Jamun, Mallotus philippensis, and Diospyros tomentosa plant species. However compared to the rest of the park the Sal forests do not have this much of healthy seedling and sapling regeneration.

The park has an amazingly diverse form of fauna. There are more than 585 species of migratory as well as resident birds. There are Bengal tigers, leopards, Elephents and many other species of animals.

The park has enjoyed a natural ecological balance, but with the increasing tourist activities coupled with other problems is proving to be a serious challenge to the ecological balance of the park.
