Rep Power: 7 | India Broabandband forum has really grown and it has many members who are from many parts of India and some who are from outside of India too. Sometimes not all of us are lucky to know about certain places in our own country and we wonder what it’s like the other side of the India, what’s so good about that place what there is to do there, the food the people and so on. Because the forum has many members from different places in India I think it would be good if we all share something about the place we live in, not only the food that is available there, but the places to visit, the specialties, the people, the weather, best time to visit and so on. No matter where you live whether it’s a big city or a small town or village it would be good to hear from everyone. Because I live in Delhi I will talk about Delhi, although I don’t know a lot about it as I have been here for only 6 years or so, but will write whatever I can about Delhi. Well everyone knows it’s the capital of India, and it is a very busy place, you will find people from all religions and cultures here, which makes it a very multicultural place to live. Although it’s good to have lots of people where you live, it can be a big headache too, as at times places get too over crowded and you don’t feel like going out anymore, just to save yourself from the crowd. The amount of traffic is horrendous in Delhi, you will find traffic jams, lots of cars, motorbikes, cyclists everywhere in Delhi, which is the cause of pollution. Although there is Delhi Metro it hasn’t stopped or lessened the amount of traffic in Delhi. Even the Metro can get very cramped at times. One of the Delhi’s plus points is the Delhi Metro, which has helped many people get from one place to another, its clean, efficient and not too expensive. Generally India is a place where you will find people of classes according to the place you are in, but the Metro is one place where you will find the richest of people the people from not so well to do families, which is a good thing. The Metro is slowing expanding all over Delhi, which will make it easy for people to get from one end of Delhi to another without having to face the horrible Delhi traffic. When it comes to eating you can find all sorts in Delhi, from shahi Kebabs, Giani’s falooda in Old Delhi, the popular chicken tikka in Khan Market, Ram ladoos in places all over Delhi, Chole Kulche, the normal eateries like Pizza Hut, Dominos, TGI Friday, Aggarwals and lots more, you name it and Delhi has it. There is something for everyone’s taste and likes. There are also specialty places where you find lots of food to eat and they have become a hot spot to eat and roam around, such as Dilli Haat which has a crafts bazaar and there are stalls which represent every state in India where you find the food from each state. When it comes to attractions in Delhi, then there is a lot to see, from historical places, to new buildings, to parks and shopping places. Delhi has a number of forts, a lot of religious places to visit such as Gurudwara’s, Majids, Churches, Mandirs and the popular Lotus temple! There is also the popular Kutumb Minar and a number of other historical buildings! Delhi also has some beautiful parks where you can relax and enjoy your free time, you will also find one near India Gate. Apparently there is also a new Japanese Park, which I have heard of a lot but not been there personally. Currently I can only think of this much, but will add in on Delhi when something comes into mind. Looking forward to read about other places in India! |

| I am form kolkata not accurately actually Howrah, Belur Math just 5 min away from my home.Belur Math is the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Mission, founded by Swami Vivekananda in 1898.Swamiji impressed by karnataka's temple in Belur so he gave the name of Belur Math. Now what can I say about kolkata it was India's former Capital (upto 1911) lots of famous place if i explain then it will be too elaborate and kolkata has lots of heritage like Victoria Memorial, Howrah Bridge, Birla Planetarium( First Planetarium in Asia),India's National Museum(1814,more than 1 million exhibits are presently exhibited),India's First Medical college(1835) and so many and Metro Railway(first underground railway service in the country started from 1984).In sports Eden Gardens is the oldest cricket ground in Indiaand Kolkata's people are so passionate about sports whether Cricket or Football Another think kolkata is also famous for food specially in sweet. |

| Platinum Member | I am from Pune. Pune was once known as a Pensioner's Paradise because of the weather. People from Mumbai (erstwhile Bombay) used to build a quaint little bunglow from their savings and settle down in Pune in their twilight years. The serene weather, calm life and proximity to Mumbai was ideal. Now Pune is a hustling/bustling modern city with the usual traffic chaos that is associated with any large city. Pune is also known as the Oxford of the east due to it hosuing so many universities and colleges. Almost every vocation can be found in and around Pune. This also results in a lot of floating student population. Population of Pune is estimated to be around 50 lakhs. Pune is also home to Bajaj Auto and Tata Motors. It is a major auto hub. Pune also all has major IT companies. Pune has a good climate all the year round. Best time to visit is during July when monsoon is in full swing. The Mumbai-Pune Expressway was the second major expressway (Ahemdabad-Vadodara was the first one) in India. It has brought down the road commute time to Mumbai by two hours.

Rep Power: 10 | I was born and brought up at Patna.. Patna is situated on the banks of sacred river Ganges... Its densly populated (Total around 20 Lakhs; 1132 persons per square kilometre.)... The ancient Patna known as Patliputra was the capital of Nandas, Mauryans, Sungas and the Guptas down to the Pala Empires, was a magnificent city and was the wonder of its age. Patliputra was also a famous city of learning and fine arts. Its population during Maurya period (around 300 B.C), was about 400,000. From Pataliputra, the famed emperor Chandragupta Maurya (a contemporary of Alexander) ruled a vast empire, stretching from the Bay of Bengal to Afghanistan. Early Mauryan Patliputra was mostly built with wooden structures. Emperor Ashoka, the grandson of Chandragupta Maurya, transformed the wooden capital into a stone construction around 273 BC. The Buddhist, Hindu and Jain pilgrim centres of Vaishali, Rajgir (or Rajgriha), Nalanda, Bodhgaya and Pawapuri are nearby and Patna is also a sacred city for Sikhs. The tenth and last "human" Sikh guru, Guru Gobind Singh, was born here. It is the ideal gateway for all the places on this circuit. The monuments in and around the city take one down the history to its glorious past. Patna is the only place which has better living conditions in Bihar (Bihar is famous for its backwardness in the country thanks to Mr. Lalu Prasad Yadav's 15 yrs rule on the state)... Infact electricity situation in Patna is better than what I've seen in my stay at Delhi & Pune... Even as Bihar has the lowest per capita income in the country at Rs 5,772 against the national average of Rs 22,946, Patna recorded much better per capita gross district domestic product (GDP) of Rs 31,441. Infact Patna is among top ranking cities in per capita income as shown in the image by the Economic Survey of 2007-2008. ![]() Climate of Patna is almost like Delhi... Its hot in summers and cold in winters... Monsoon stays from late June to late september... Patna is also known for the sweet delicacies of central Bihar including Khaja, Motichoor ka Ladoo, Kala Jamun, Kesaria Peda, Parwal ki Mithai, Khubi ka Lai and Chena Murki... Unlike the Bengali sweets (found in abundance in sweet shops at Patna) which are soaked in syrup of sugar and are therefore wet, original sweets of Patna and Bihar are mostly dry. The Malda mangoes of Digha, Patna are very delicious & exported... One famous dish of peasants in rural Bihar is Litti-Chokha (Litti is a baked round shape, made by wheat flour with stuffed sattu , Chokha is the combination of smashed boiled potatoes, bringals & tomatoes)... Litti-Chokha of Bihar is equivalent to Punjab's Makke di Roti & Sarso ka saag... In my current visit to Patna I'm surprised to see this Litti-Chokha making its way into some famous fast-food centers...lol And I would like to add that a chain of Litti-Chokha Restaurant is also running at atleast 3 places in Pune (I tasted my 1st litti-chokha at Pune In last couple of yrs Patna has changed a lot! Crime-rate has gone down to almost nil... New Malls, Multiplexes, famous Restaurants are coming up... Jobs are being created in Private Sectors like banking and insurance... IT sector is yet to arrive... I guess it will take another 4-5 yrs for Patna to regain its old glory... |

Rep Power: 10 | Not at all dear... Current Govt. is doing very well to keep the crime rate low atleast in Patna... One major factor is creation of new opportunities for youth... Though I can't claim that thing about other places in Bihar as yet... One thing I'm proud of my state is that it never suffered from communal riots atleast in my life-time... People of all religions respect each other customs... Thats a great thing to achieve! |

| Yes Stadium in Mohali is beautiful and very nice one but we can't see much crowd in the stadium specially in test matches.Watching Cricket in Eden is an outstanding experience 90-100 thousands people almost always present(test or ODI) and atmosphere is electric and so noisy and famous Mexican wave is adding some tune. |

| Platinum Member | ok, i live in kolkata (or calcutta, whatever !!! ). was born and brought up here. its a huge city (how big i have no idea, curious persons google it) and many people live here ( there are generic/authentic bengalis and people from other states who come to work here, there are huge collections of illegal immigrants who sneak in and stay and work:if they vote the right parties they dont have to bother about being sent back, and there are also the terrorists who sneak in through bangladesh and blow up hotels and trains in other states:nobody craps where they eat ). Its a city of the rich and the poor, the remaining middle-class are trying out newer methods of commiting suicide. The IT sector has finally arrived here in its full glory, and subsequently it has brought us CCD and other places where u can really empty ur pockets over a cup of coffee. The shopping malls have arrived here too (there are 11 malls on the way to my home from college, it is merely a 15 minutes bus-ride ). So u can see there is plenty to be proud of. Somehow or other, my city has been honoured with the name "the city of joy". Truely the work of a genius, who could have thought that the place where there are beggars begging around every turn u take, throat-slashers waiting for u to take the wrong turn, people who seem to have forgotten the basic rules of civility , can be called by that name. But still, I m happy to be here. To me, my city begins at my doorsteps and ends at the nearby store where i buy my pack of cigarettes. I go beyond it daily, to have fun, to eat some fried chicken, to play an occasional game of cricket ; but when i get back to my own room, the comforting sight of my bed and my stuffs make me the happiest bloke around. This is my city, I belong here. |
