Kemmangundi (Kannada) is a hill station in Tarikere taluk of Chikkamagaluru district in the state of Karnataka, India. It is located at a height of 1434m above sea level. This was the summer retreat of Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV and as a mark of respect to the king, it is also known as Sri Krishnarajendra Hill Station. Ringed by the Baba Budan Giri Range and blessed with silver cascades, mountain streams, and lush vegetation, Kemmangundi’s beautifully laid-out ornamental gardens and enchanting mountains and valleys views are a treat to the eye. The spectacular sunset view from the Raj Bhavan is a photographer’s delight. For the adventurous at heart, Kemmangundi offers many peaks to scale and intricate jungle paths to explore.

Coorg Kodagu or Coorg is derived from the local version “Kodavu” and the people of Kodagu Kodavas. According to Puranic versions the land of initial settlement was called Krodadesa which later became Kodavu. It is also said that Kodagu is derived from the word Kodava, Kod means 'give' and avva means 'mother', i.e mother Kaveri, the river Kaveri.

NANDI HILLS This range of craggy hills (the highest peak being 2004 m) holds the shimmering Amrita Sarovar Lake and offers walks of sylvan beauty. A popular health resort today, it was also the place Tipu Sultan and assorted royalty retired when they sought to escape the din of battle and the heat of the plains.

The hills are located about 60 km north of Bangalore and about 5970 ft above sea level. The deviation road at Oordagere on the Bangalore-Tumkur Road can reach it. On the top of the hill, there are temples dedicated to Sri Ugra Narasimha and Sri Yoga Narasimha. On the lower hill there is a temple dedicated to Sri Bhoga Narasimha. There is a Traveler's Bungalow and a Kalyana Mantap on the top of the hill and a Forest Lodge and Taluk Board T.B. at the foot of the hill.

A flight of 1,175 steps leads from the base of the hills to the top. On top was Tipu Sultan's summer retreat and the remains of Tipu's fort bear this out. Tipu's Drop, a 600 metre high cliff face, where prisoners were hurled down the precipice, is an awe-inspiring sight.

Sir Mark Cubbon, when he was Commissioner of Bangalore made this his summer residence. Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Queen Elizabeth II were among the other dignitaries who enjoyed their stay here. More recently, former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi and the SAARC delegates chose this spot for a retreat after their international deliberations.

You can visit this place at any time of the year. Its best if you are on top of the hill before sunrise. The wind, fog and clouds that blow towards you in the morning is just amazing. To be on top of the hill by 5:30AM, you need to leave bangalore at around 4AM. If you are not sure about the route, leave even earlier.

Buildings & memorials like these does not define a place

    But people like these do

Who raise their voice against the tyranny when others even don't its happening.
History is on the move,my friends. Those who cannot keep up will be left behind, to watch from distance. And those who stand in its way will not watch at all.http://windows7sins.org/

Luke lemme tell you one thing no one goes to watch that building.i have been there 3ce i never saw those buildings we watch the sunrise as well as the mist or you can say fog how it rises higher and higher and there's this nandi temple as well as an old pond that is visible out there. if building's dint have any meaning no one would have gone to taj mahal or victoria memorial. nandi hill has more to see than what you are seeing.

I meant to say that non living things like these don't define a place but its the meaning associated with them that do.

Nandi hills is great, only problem is that are toooooo many monkeys !! You have to hire 2-3 people to guard you when your having a picnic. You all should go to Hampi. Its a great place too. 2 days should be enough for that place. The hotels are good and cheap. Food prices are also good. There is a lot to see there too. Just make sure that its not too hot at that time of the year.
