If you are on a holiday to Shimla, there are some places which you should definitely visit whenever you have time.
First thing first, you should pay a visit to the Mall, the main shopping centre of Shimla. The place has many restaurants, banks, clubs, post offices, bars, as well as tourist offices. It also has the famous Gaiety Theatre. You can walk up and down the Mall and also visit its two main meeting points; the Ridge and the Scandal point.
You should also pay a visit to the famous Christ Church, which is located on the Ridge it in fact is the second oldest church in the area of Northern India. The church has a majestic appearance. It has stained glass windows that are a representation of values like hope, faith, fortitude, charity, humility and patience.
Also visit the Jakhu Hill located at 2 km out of Shimla. It is situated at an approximate height of 8000 ft. It is the highest peak in the area offering a really beautiful view of the town as well as of the snow-covered Himalayas. Right on the top of the Hill, is located a really old temple of Lord Hanuman, which is also a must visit place.
You may also go to the Shimla State Museum, opened in the year 1974. It is symbol of the cultural wealth of the state. The museum has a wonderful collection of miniature Pahari paintings, bronze and wood-carvings, sculpture as well as textiles, jewelry and also costumes of the region.
You can also visit the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, located in the Viceregal Lodge, built in 1884-88 during the peak of the British Raj. The place has spacious gardens with beautiful pine trees.
