Ive now decided to open a new thread, so that old threads don't get dragged.
I know there are a lot of people from the forum who have been to Shimla, so guys please help and tell me what all is there to see in Shimla, the best places to visit regarding monuments, food, scenery etc.

I have been there only once, just a month back, I too didn't know much but I have been to Mall Road Market, Lakkar bazar, The church (don't remember the name). The best thing i liked about the market is NO Vehicles near market.

Thanks Manish, well its a start to know something about Shimla.

I think its good to know about the place from people before you go, as when you make your trip there you can visit all the best places and not miss out on anything.

Visit Shimla from kalka to toy train then you can enjoy more.
    Must visit
    1. Kali Mandir
    2. Tara Mandir & Sankatmochan
    3. Summer hill (station before shimla, famous for Gandhiji)
    4. Helipad ground
    5. Annandale (nice view)
    6. Prospect hill
and finally Shimla Mall and church
if possible then visit kufri by car 30-40 min(15-20 KM) it's also nice place.
    • Special historical place

In west side of the city one six floor building is present called garden house retreat. Before the independence it was the Viceroy's residence.
Lots of historical decision has been taken in this 'retreat' like Jawaharlal Nehru accepted in Indo-pak participation in 1947 and also after the independence peace agreement (between India-pak) has been signed in this retreat.

Its been my long time desire to visit Shimla. But till now I have not got time to visit it. I need to take at least 5 days off from office to visit shimla. Which I think its not possible, as I am the only guy in my team (in office, 1 man army).

Mean while i had made plan to visit kodaikanal. Just me & my wife. Its a 3 day trip. I am in talks with few tour operator/travels to get the best rates. Will post the review after I come back from the trip

Thanks Rupu, Travelling through Mini Train is a wonderful idea, But I found few problems going with it:

    - we didn't get a proper parking place to park our car in Kalka.
    - I came to know that the train will take around 6 hours.
    - While crossing the Railway station in shimla, I realised that one has to travel few km to find a good accomodation, the one near station were too costly.
    - As we had aload of luggage, I didn't find a proper transporation to travel from Station to hotel with luggage.

So I was Glad that we travelled by Car

I mentioned these point not to scare you guys, i was just highlighting the possible hurdles. As this was my first trip there and that too unplanned, so most of the point can be eliminated if you plan accordingly.

    Hi Friends,

I belong to Himachal and studied in Shimla. I have visited Shimla many times after my College.. and have a large repository of Shimla Photographs :-)

Shimla is an interesting place for different category of people. I have seen people spending most of the time on Mall & Ritz.. n probably some likes to enjoy Natural Beauty through different walks arround Mall Road or ViceRegal Lodge... I can suggest lot many other place with appropriate timings to visit... Its difficult to reply for such a generic Query... You can reach me at ripplevj@travellingcamera.com with specifci queries....
