As you will be going for a long way. And the place is cold. Take warm blankets and cloths. Tent. Two three small buckets and mugs of plastic for answering the important calls. Have a short wave radio. A toy wireless set. Many Batteries to run them. Mobiles must.recharge coupons.two three batteries to run them. Multi pin plug. Torches. Matchsticks. Candles. Credit card as Sbi has branch in ladakh. Knifes for self protection. A demo gun. Your necessary docs like voter id, d.l(obviously ) some books to read. take the name Of Shankar and go on.

P.s you can leave some items i listed above. But i always took these things as i went much inside of country. And these things helped.

i was joking. Theres no shortcut. Everything which is shortcut is always a longcut. Mind my words.!!

I forgot to tell you of keeping a Jaricane (plastic container) for fuel. As the place is having less fuelling stations. Please don take pulsar as its average dims in high tracking tours. Take another bullet if you can. I will like you too take a third bike if can.

i don know if plastic bottles will work against a big fuel tank. But do whatever suits. Bike like bullet. Take haults every five hours of travelling. Both for bike and yourself. Take nice sleeps. Take with yourself mosquito repellers.

There is a route via Manali but I don't know what the road condition is like... I went via that route more then 10 years ago and it was all broken...

How many days is your trip for?

You could have a look at this thread about Leh and Ladakh with complete details on how to get their what to do and accommodation available at Leh Ladakh and en route.

After reading the above linked page you wont need any more info as it has everything you would ever need for this trip.

I don't think carrying petrol in bisleri bottles is a safe thing to do.

(Police can stop you thinking it is a Molotov Cocktail)

You dont need petrol in bottles ... Just keep your tanks full and dont let them go below 50%... there are plenty of petrol pumps along the way.

You are all going to be together so just keep a small bottle may be 500ml full of petrol for an emergency and a thin pipe if you had to take petrol out of one bike and put it in another...

All in all there are plenty of petrol stations along the way so just keepyour tanks full and you wont have any problem.

But in my opinion going to Leh on bikes is not a very clever idea... hire some 4x4 if you are feeling adventourous. It would work out to be more or less the same and you can take a lot more stuff with you for camping like tents and even stuff to cook your own food.

IMO touring to ladakh on bikes is a different thing than on a 4x4......

BTW is the food and tents are very costly there..... ???

That's a home made explosive device with a bottle of petrol
and a peice of cloth like a wick. you light the cloth and throw
it and it explodes, you must definitely have seen it in English movies.

yes i think the Boss is correct..

i was telling about keeping jaricane cause i felt there are less petrol pumps in the way...

when i was going towards Munsyari( Feet of Himalayas) we took all this stuff cause only one petrol pump in 400km mountain ways....

    Hi,

We're planning a trip to Leh from Delhi mid September - mostly by road. 2 quick ones:

    1. What's the best route to get there (Bus / hired vehicle)
    2. Is renting a vehicle in leh to get around a good idea or does it work out too expensive?
