    Lol,

i was just amazed foreigners are so happy with the arrangements in Indian railways.. That must be, because for outsiders Indian authorities are always so much keeping with.. untill i found this very comment..
well, while travelling in the Indian railways either it be a foreigner or an Indian himself, must be taken in mind that there is are such people who can use your innocence and give you an invalid berth for your money..
about an instance, while i was travelling to Bangalore to my brother with my parents, an elderly couple was roaming here and there on the Hazrat Nizamuddin station (Delhi) with their internet ticket,.. they were denied their berths because that seats were not alloted on their name. This is very poor business, Indian railway must put out corruption from its present flawful system.

I think this has always happened, and always will. I remember reading about it in the guidebooks before I even set foot in India, and it still gets mentioned on travel sites like www.Indiamike.com.

It seems these people are a part of life. When coming home from a trip a while back I was approached by a car tout on Chennai Central station. He asked where I was going, and, out of curiosity, I told him. He told me Rs.2,000 --- it had cost about Rs.350 to reach the station a week before! Whilst I might be taken for a foreign tourist, he kept up the game even when my wife caught up with me --- and she is unmistakably local.

Just recently, when arriving at the airport, I was targeted for foreign exchange. I wonder what the offer would have been? I don't know: just getting out of Chennai airport is such a pain at the monent, I had no enthusiasm for playing games with touts.

Newdelhi station is no different when it comes to touts.. I went to the ticket office near the station last year and they didint have any seats available on the shatabdi to Jallandhar and a tout who happened to be right at the window goes aao na saab (please come with me) and he goes how many tickets do you need? and I said if the ticketing office doesnt have them available how are you going to provide me a ticket and he said they book them in advance... I followed him outside and he took me to a travel agent shop near by and quoted Rs1800 for a ticket that is less then 1000rs.. I said I will buy it off him but I need to make a quick phone call before I do that... I came out of the shop called the pahar ganj police station as the sho happened to be an old friend and narrated him the whole thing and he just wont stop laughing... he asked me to wait inside the shop and I went inside.. 15 mins and the man was there with a few constables.. the constables surrounded the tout and I ended up getting the ticket for free and I am sure money would have exchanged hands after I left as well... Later on I found out that railways staff is a party in this scam which goes on at every station across India... police gets their cut aswell for letting them run the whole thing.

    What a shame!

Many time when we go for booking many the ticket is not available. These travel agencies book ticket in advance and after sell it at high cost.
Many time it may happened that you get a waiting ticket and need to confirm the ticket at that time for confirmation of ticket they need a extra money which is not good.

Thanks to irctc, now that they dont accept bulk booking! This would be useful for genuine passengers, especially when it comes to tatkal reservations!
