Best time to visit Chennai?

I want to visit Chennai and I know from May to at least end of June its very hot there. So when would the best time to visit Chennai be?

What places are a must to see in Chennai? Any other tips would be great, as I have never been to the South of India.

Marina beach is a dump if you ask me. Dont get me wrong, I love Chennai and its people but that beach is a garbage bin to say the least. Chennai has some very beautiful ancient temples.

Best time to visit Chennai is in winters as Dolphin said above In summers you will be constantly sweating.

Best time to visit Chennai? I am sorry to say, but never would be a close answer. Please don't mind my South friends. I have nothing against the city. I have visited it many times but I found that the weather is over-bearing most of the times, except Dec-Jan.

So Ramjet you have your answer, best time to visit is Decemeber to January, but if you can take the heat then from September to December.

So when its November or even February I take it its really hot there then........which means June, July months most be boiling hot!

when visiting chennai never forgot to visit the hill stations of tamil nadu! and when come back just tell me about em cos i am planning a visit at one of the hill stations there

You are quite unaware, aren't you? Kodaikanal, Ooty, Connoor, Yercaud, Anamalai, etc.

Its either hot or raining in Chennai .
Chennai receives rains in June and than in September or October. So Choose winters to visit the heat is bearable in this season

In my point of view the best time to visit is Sep. to Dec.
