“It” is one of the most successful novels written by Stephen king. The book spawned a TV series which was also very successful. The TV series was also known as “It”.

“It” was originally broadcasted as a two-part television mini-series. It premiered on November 18th , 1990 on ABC. The tv series loosely follows the original plot of the novel.

The first part of the miniseries is set in the year 1960 and it introduces a group of social misfits, the "Losers". It follows their life as they meet and go on to form a tight-knit group to face the world which according to them is very cruel and intolerant.

Each of the persons in the group individually comes into contact with a child-killing monster. They name the monster as, "It", who is haunting their hometown of Derry, in the state of Maine. ‘It’ usually appears as the thing that its victim mostly fears; otherwise it takes the form of Pennywise the Dancing Clown.

According to a survey done by Radio Times magazine in 2004, it was termed as the scariest program aired on television. The X-Files came second on that list. ‘It also scored much better than the other programs like Twin Peaks, Ghostwatch and the Tales of the Unexpected.

The tv series is a little different from the book, this is because the running time of the series was to be kept at a reasonable level. Also it had to be altered to sanitize it for television, as well as due to various budgetary limitations.

However, the film received praise from the community of Stephen king’s fans for Tim Curry portrayal of the demon clown Pennywise. Most fans feel he played a scary as well as comical clown.

“It” is a must watch for horror fans and Stephen King devotees alike.
