Are Indian News Channels Promoting Terrorism?

Terrorism is one of the most serious global issues. News channels keep us updated about different events all over the world about terrorism and they should. All Indian news channels did a great job in the recent attack on Mumbai and acted very responsibly.

But, these days whenever I switch on my television and tune in to some news channels, I always see those half/one hour hyped stories on terrorism mostly related with Pakistan, Taliban, America, and India. One day they say that, Taliban is planning an attack on India. The next day the same news channel says Taliban is fighting with Pakistani government etc etc. The crap goes on all day. And these are backed up with almost the same images and videos every day and some very scary comments. You all must have noticed such stories on news channels, specially the ones like India TV, Aaj Tak, Star News, News 24 etc.

We all know that terrorism is a sensitive issue. Lot of awareness needs to be created for general public on this issue but do you think these programs help? I think they are selling terrorism. Is selling terrorism for TRP not very cheap for these national news channels? We ignore these programs or even watch them just for the sake of watching and don’t get affected much, but these programs really put some very adverse affects on young children. During the days of Mumbai attack, we (my family) were watching news channels almost always and seeing these news my sister (12yrs old) really got scared and had a few almost sleepless nights. This was just a particular case. This must be happening with many children.

Do you think such programs are justified every day (almost a daily soap now)? Don't you think this is promotion of terrorism? Do children deserve this environment around them always?

Look i also feel that(specially in prime time) but one thing i want to tell you being a Indian now i am habituated with that.This is the country where most of them is thinking about their own business now terrorism is hot issue in recent time lot of the public will watch it with an excitement who care whats few person is feeling.Just remember another story of April,2007 when a famous film star couple marriage has been taken place in Mumbai.Every news channel started to cover that news before 2 month of that ceremony( 1 hour in every day) and finally at that special day every Indian news channel started to telecast live from the morning to night continuously which is just unbelievable for me.May be we Indian's have to see such thing again and again where lots of common people are not getting the justice from lot of sector, where lots of other important news need to show in such channel but what we are getting ? commercialization of media.

No, no i was waiting for you all posts. Actually the thing is that Indian channels are making a scenario, against Pakistan and taliban. I like their job. Especially India tv and Zee.

actually i dont think many people come to this section, i didn't.

i too think the same.. in fact these hindi news channels promote all sorts of garbage just to get more viewership from i don't know who in india... they promote terror, superstition (don't even get me started on this! ), spread rumours.. the list is endless... specially that cr** news 24 and india tv.

i just watch Times Now in the evening for a while, nothing else. its better to ignore these basta**s cause nothing is gonna be done against them anyways.

Its not jus related to terrorism jus like rupu said.... anything that can attact a viewer.. they do't really bother about the crediblity of the news either...

who are they attracting? i'm in fact repulsed by what rupu said... for one thing i don't want to watch any1 getting married and their preparation on my tv, let alone some crazy good for nothing actors or actresses!
its better i butt away from this topic.. m losing control of myself.

leave the bakwaas news they show about indian celebs ... leave the entertainment shows - where they only show the clips of various serials ... leave the sports talk shows ... all these are of course meaningless ...

but are the shows like Sansani, Vardaat and at least two hours of programs each day on Terrorism justified!! yesterday itself all these hindi news channels were showing that LADEN has been found ... they know where he is hinding and stuff .. ... these news channels may beat US in a war also some day ...

Also to note, in the mangalore incident, television channels camera crew were present in the place of incident 15 mins earlier and did nothing to prevent the scary incident. Same thing happened in chennai were two BL students were beaten black and blue without mercy and camera was focussed on them. The police also were looking at it like a big tamasha. Btw in this the police came 10 mins before the violence was going to start.

On a related note, we dictate the TRP system, the more number of people who see these shows are indiretly encouraging media channels to these shows.
