he is putting his life into a LOT of danger for no reason! Most of what he does is NOT to be followed if you want to SURVIVE! what i'm saying is, what he teaches is WRONG many of the times, and will result in you DYING.

yes NP i have been to a Chicken farm recently and the food they provide is some sort for grain itself purely developed for the purpose of feeding chickens and it is 1750 rs for 50 KG. Its very costly compared to the normal food they use...

Thank you for this post. I have signed the petition. The best thing would be that all humans, if they want to call themselves human, must turn to vegetarianism. There lies the solution for food-problem, war, and barbarism.

Instead of holding the snake up and telling the viewer how to kill it if an emergency ever was to arise, he kills it.
This show is a constant reminder of the animal abuse happening all around the world everyday, and children and adults watch this show and are disturbed for days by what was shown on national television.
i agree with the above ... signed the petition

So, am I missing something, If they are disturbed for days why
are they watching the show? Technology has advanced so
much that you can actually change the channel and watch
    something else ;-)

I guess what was meant is that, even if they watched it once, the memories haunted them....

I have refrained from commenting on this thread till now. I just thought that I will put in my two cents.

    • The Discovery Channel (along with AP and NatGeo) are committed to saving the planet and its flora/fauna from irrevocable damage. Hence I would think that they will think twice before airing such a show.
    • I have watched the show a few times and I think it is much informative. The show is not promoting that you should go about killing animals at the drop of the coin.
    • Many armies, including the Indian army, have special courses for survival techniques for commandos and forces that take part in extreme operations. We have such a center at Belgaum, KA (the movie Prahaar was shot on that location). The people in that course are taught to live extreme - run/exercise, cross obstacles, build things out of whatever is around you, and live off whatever is available around you (remember Rambo?) Such courses are run every year. Snakes are a very common diet because they are universally found.
    • People have argued about vegetarianism, etc. I am mostly a vegetarian. But there are conditions when you do not find any vegetarian food around. I shall give two such instances from personal life:
      - When I was in Finland, the only vegetarian item on the menu was mashed/boiled potato, lettuce and broccolli. Please try surviving on these items for more than a week and I was there for over a month.
      - Two colleagues of mine visited Japan. Being strict South Indian vegetarian brahmins (and abyssimal cooks at that), they tried to survive on rice and curd for three months. At the end of the three months, they were seriously ill and suffered from Beri-Beri (Vitamin B deficiency) and Scurvy (Vitamin C deficiency). Both of these diseases are extremely severe maladies.
    • If every one turned vegetarian, we will have very little forest and all land will be converted to farms. As it is, the condition is bad.
    • As said earlier, the show is not about demonstrating about "how to kill". The show is about "how to survive". Whether the camel in the video was dead or not is not the question - can any vegetarian survive in the deep Sahara? And what about the people whose plane crashed in the Andes and the survivers had to eat the dead to stay alive?
    • I could give several examples. The point is that there are arguments from both sides. Unless one is faced in a crisis situation, one cannot imagine what it will be like.
Please do not get me wrong here. I respect the opinions from the other side
*** Never argue with an idiot. ***

I got your point may be my first reply is little more emotional may be that program is informative also but for whom i don't think anyone can kill the animal only to provide demonstration. Most of the discovery viewers only watch this show it as for curiosity or as thrilling fun no one will go to fight with wild animal. Those person who lives in jungle and really fight with wild animal only to 'struggle for existence' most of them never watch this show of discovery or they already have such lesson how to fight with wild animal.
This show is for the common urban people those who can only watch this show for clap but sorry to say in between very few animal will be killed.
Yes that's true Indian army did few strong special courses for survival techniques but that kind of training is present for Indian army not all Indian.I think i can explain my point.

As I said, everyone will have a point of view just like there are two sides of a coin. I will put in this last argument and then shut up. Everyone is talking about killing animals and cruelty, etc. Just consider the following:

    • In India, the cow is a holy animal. We treat it equivalent to a "mother". Yet, when the cow is no more able to conceive and subsequently able to produce milk, it is let out on the streets.
    • Milch cattle are genetically engineered to produce more milk.
    • Where does all the leather come from?
    • When you consume any animal derived product (and not necessarily meat), you are forcing your will and desire on the animal. (God did not create the animal to serve you.)

Are the facts above not cruelty to animals? In my opinion, you are a vegetarian, if you do not consume any animal product or by-product. And if are a non-vegetarian, there is no percentage in stating that "I shall not eat this type of meat" or "I shall not eat that", etc.

All the people here seem to be horrified at the scene of cutting a camel open. For the people in deep Sahara (where there is very little vegetation), people live off the animals - and the camel is one of them. This show is seems to offending or repulsive because it is showing stark realism. I will suggest that we visit a local dairy farm and see how the animals are treated there, in what filth they live, etc.

Finally, this show is *not* meant for the person living in the jungle trying to survive. Such a person already knows how to survive in the wild. This show *is* meant for the urban viewer to show how to survive if you are ever stranded in the wild.

This is my last contribution to this forum, i hope it helps:
GoVeg.com // Cruelty to Animals: Mechanized Madness

Plz look at the video, stopping these farms is a lot more effective and practical that banning shows.
