Rise of the Argonauts
It’s a Single player Role Playing Game developed by Codemasters and based on Greek Mythology.
You play the role of King Jason of Iolcus. In the very start of the game the cinematic shows that Jason's wife Alceme is assassinated on the wedding ceremony. Though filled with sorrow Jason decides to keep his composure and chase the assassin. After fending off the evil minions with the help of royal guards and Hercules he finally corners the assassin and finds he is a Black Tongue (mysterious evil men who worships the Titan Hecate). Instead of giving last rites to his wife, struck with great pain Jason decides to bring Alceme back to life! Argus, the great ship builder, was assigned to build a marvelous ship which was completed just in time for Jason to sail for a perilous journey. Aided by the Olympian gods, Athena, Apollo, Hermes and Aries, he sets sail to seek the knowledge the Oracle and finding strong allies throughout the adventure.
The game is very interactive. Almost every action you make will contribute to your skill points, including the choice of speech. Some actions count as a favor to a particular god while others give you special traits like Heroic Patience. For example, if you decide to resolve things through fighting you will favor the god Aries, while use of knowledge and wisdom will give you the favor of the goddess Athena. The favor you get allows you to unlock new feats and God powers. You’ll also note that different gods favor different weapons. For example gaining the favor of Athena allows you gain traits with the Spear (personally my choice of actions usually favored Athena so I mastered the spear). Likewise Aeries favors the Mace, Hermes, the sword and spear, and Apollo favors the sword. You will also gain different versions of those three classes of weapons & some of them are rather cool. Throughout the game you’ll be able to recruit NPC allies like: Achilles, Atlanta, etc. I found Hercules was the best, the unstoppable son of Zeus will take on anything with bare hands. Also he is in the game right from the beginning.
It is to be noted that health of Jason’s or his companions’ is not displayed any where which is rather cool. You can regenerate and upgrade your health however. Combat is also nice where you can perform various combos using multiple weapon combinations etc. The spear throw and mace’s special attack are pretty useful moves. The enemy can also avoid, block and counter your attacks just like you (Ok! Not as good as you).
Graphics and Audio:
The game uses Unreal Engine 3, and harnesses its power to give great visuals. The game features great facial animations and dialogs. Each level also features nice Greek architecture and items including their traditional armor and dresses. Special effects and lightning are cool too. You'll find all kinds of environmen you expect in a Greek Mythical game like: Royal Court, Arena, Temples and Underworld itself. Everything from armor to weapons and helmets are well polished and artfully designed. You will also find the enemies taunting at you.
Overall : 8.5/10
