Rep Power: 2 | UNREAL TOURNAMENT 3 .... Do you have what it takes ?!... OVERVIEW: An extremely fast paced first person shooter developed by Epic Games with stunning VFX, sound and Game-play. Epic Games launched first Unreal Tournament in 1999 which was a massive hit and was given Game of the Year award. In Christmas 2006 Epic launched Gears Of War which sold three million copies in just ten weeks. With the power of Unreal Engine 3.0 came a new Game in the UT franchise Unreal Tournament 3 which sold over million copies worldwide by March 2008. PLOT: For the first time in the Unreal Tournament franchise this latest installment actually has a story. In the year 2291, Death-Match was invented for real to control violence among deep space miners and a league called Unreal Tournament was officially started. Fifty years later in where mankind is ruled by three corporate: Liandri, Izanagi and Axon, the popularity of the contest has grown unlike anything. You play the role of Reaper who was a soldier at the planet of Twin Souls (which is a mining colony). The planet comes under attack of monstrous army of Necris. The entire colony was trashed and you lost everything. Somehow rescued by your clan and having recovered your injuries, you fight for all that’s left – Revenge. You find out that the entire concept of rivalry among corporate have changed. Respawners are deployed in battle field which brings back dead soldiers in the area instantly as long as battery isn’t depleted. GAME-PLAY: Unreal Tournament is well known for unparalleled game-play. Though the game is focuses on multi-player action, single-player mode is equally entertaining. The game deliver human like A.I. and bots seems to have a mind of their own. Every time you play the game it feels different as bots react differently and don’t know how you’ll win. The characters (or rather bots) have different personalities which are reflected through their taunts, choice of weapons and moves they make. UT3 also has co-op campaign mode for up to 4 players, so you can enjoy the story with your friends online. UT3 Has these game modes :- - Deathmatch – Kill anything that moves and reach score limit or time limit - Team Deathmatch – Similar to Deathmatch but kill your opponents - Capture The Flag – Bring enemies’ flag to your base - Vehicle CTF – same as CTF but with vehicles - Warfare – Destroy enemies’ power core while protecting your core - One-on-One – Similar to Deathmatch but with against one enemy The game has unbelievable environment that can not only stuns but also kills. Toxic waste, Endless pits, Rivers, Tele-porters and what not. There are also levels in space stations where there are only weak forces of gravity or artificial gravity if you’re lucky. The game has a huge arsenal of weapons and vehicles alike. From rocket launchers to mini-gun the game has everything. But the game adds UNREAL twist to every item. For example the Rocket Launcher can fire three rockets in parallel or spirally or in plain old way if you want. Also there’s a mini nuke launcher which is called the REEDEMER. You don’t want to be around when this goes off, plus you can guide it to go anywhere in the map. There are also various items like EMP grenades, Shields, U-Damage, and Force-field Generators. The list can go forever. UT3 has land, air and hover vehicles of two different classes. The human class vehicles are like state of the art technology that can devastate everything. The massive Leviathan and air superiority Raptor are some of the mentionable. The other class is alien Necris, which look totally outlandish. I liked the Necris Dark Walker a lot which is a giant four storey tall walker class vehicle that can climb over low buildings with three long legs and incinerate everything with lasers. Another vehicle is the hover-board which is given to all factions and transport you anywhere quickly while performing stylish jumps. GRAPHICS & AUDIO: The graphics are totally amazing. All kinds of effects from reflection to ray-tracing are visible. If you have played Unreal Tournament 2004 then you’ll remember a map ONS-Torlan which was a big map open ended map. The number of vertices of that map is less than the number of vertices in a single rocket launcher, so you understand how detailed the game is. Also it does not require a high end PC to run it. The textures used in the game are also very large. Explosions and Decals are integral part of the game. Plus if you’re killed by plasma fire you’ll possibly able to see your skeleton. With a little luck you can even walk over it if you respawn somewhere close to your corpse. Different weapons produce different effects. On direct hit rocket launcher will burst your flesh all over the place. The physics in the game is cool too. If you have Geforce 8 or higher or have Physx card itself you can turn on Hardware Physics which makes the game-play and performance even better. If you have creative sound blaster and good speakers, then UT3 can deliver sound that will literally throw everyone out of the house. You can hear the footsteps and pickup the direction of audio cues. It will add extra fun to the game. CONLUSION: UT3 is by the far the best game I’ve played. I got especially intrigued by the A.I. of the game. With a huge load of arsenal of weapons and stunning vehicles the game also delivers unequaled game-play. The only drawback was that the cut scenes were very long (though they can be skipped with a single click) and they appear after long intervals of time. The game can deliver endless hours of game-play. Plus the fan based mod community provides new maps every day. The game ships with all the modding tools. Those are the same tools that were used to develop the game !!! It’s called UnrealED. So you can create your own mod and levels for the game. OVERALL SCORE- 10/10 ... I love UT UT3 Screen Shots :- P.S. All image sizes have been reduced to 800x480 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() UT3 System Requirements Microsoft Windows XP/Vista 2.0 GHz single core CPU (2.4 GHz dual core CPU or faster recommended) 512 MB RAM (1.0 GB RAM or greater recommended) 8.0 GB hard disk drive space NVIDIA 6200 or ATI 9600 video card (NVIDIA 7800GTX or ATI X1300 or faster recommended) DirectX 9.0c compliant sound card Internet (TCP/IP) and LAN (TCP/IP) play supported.
