Rep Power: 3 | The Blu-ray disc association has said that they aim to replace the older generation DVD format with their Blu-Ray format within the next three years. The association said: “Within three years it will just be Blu-ray.” It is being represented by Frank Simonis, the Blu-ray Disc Association’s European chairman at the ongoing Frank Simonis, the Blu-ray Disc Association’s European chairman The Blu-Ray technology offers up to five times more storage capacity than DVDs. this makes it a perfect medium for storing high definition films and other content. However, the format has a much bigger challenger than the older generation DVD format. Toshiba and partners have developed their own HD DVD format which is challenging the Blu-Ray format in the market. Blu-Ray camp has an advantage over the HD DVD camp as Sony is selling their Playstation 3 gaming console with a Blu-Ray drive. However, the HD DVD backers claim that the sale of media is almost comparable for both the formats. |

Rep Power: 7 | I sincerely hope that the latest format war (blu-ray vs HD-DVD) ends. I don't care for the winner either way, just that it should go one way so that I can make a decision on the hardware.

Rep Power: 7 | Both Blu-ray and HS-DVD provide the same resolution, viz. 1080p. So both are equal in terms of clarity, resolution, etc. Blu-ray has more capacity that HD-DVD and this is where it may score - but that applies for data storage only - for movies it does not. At this moment, there are more titles available in blu-ray as compared to HD-DVD. Blu-ray players are more expensive. |
