Videogame sales down 10% last month
One of the major videogame console headlines this week was that the Sony Playstation 2 is massively outselling the Microsoft’s latest Xbox 360 gaming console in the US market.
Here comes another surprising news. Despite the presence of a next generation gaming console in the market, the videogame sales were down by around 10% in the month of May.
Market research group NPD said in a statement that the video game software sales fell 10.2 percent in May to $286.1 million in the US market.
The analysts believe that the market is still undergoing a transition to the games for the Xbox 360 console and many gamers are delaying their decision to buy this console till the arrival of Sony Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii.
Interestingly, Nintendo’s “New Super Mario Bros” for the Nintendo DS handheld gaming console was the top selling videogame in the market.
In other news, Nintendo has said that they have sold 136,500 of its new DS Lite players in the United States on Sunday and Monday.
