Default Virgin makes SMS free beyond 3rd SMS daily (max.100 local & 100 national SMS/day)
Virgin mobile has modified their basic SMS rates as follows without the need for any add-on packs,
Local SMS per day :First 3 - Re.1/SMS (50p/SMS for TN, Chennai, Kar.)
Next 100 Free
from 104th - Rs. 1/SMS

National SMS per day : First 3 - Rs. 1.50/SMS
Next 100 Free
from 104th - Rs. 1.50/SMS

This could be really useful for the medium SMS-ers

This is in addition to their basic call charges per day of
Local Call : First 3 Min - Re. 1
from 4th Min - 50p

STD: First 3 Min - Rs.1.50
next 30 Min - 50p
from 34th min - Rs.1.50

And their offer of incoming credit of 1p for every 6 min subject to max. Rs.3 per call

Doesnt that amount to 3/- per day for 100 free local sms. 3000 sms free for 90/- per month, right?

Not exactly.
If used daily and for full it would be Rs.225 (90+135) per month for 3000 local and 3000 national SMS per month.
But, there are many who do not use SMS on some of the days or may be using only local or only national SMS on certain days.
So for them, the Rs.3/Rs.4.50 per day charge would not apply for those days when they are not sending any SMS.

its 3090 sms per month for rs.90 that way

Now if i get this straight

50p for all calls

Free sms to any network anywhere in the country

Even if it costs some 200 rupees a month in form of packs it hardly matters,Doesn't it.

Well i would have brought one if it wasn't for me living in jammu or on of the least accessible parts of the country

U need to pay approximately 225/- for 6000 sms (local+national)

Something similar has to paid (extra) for making calls at 50p too.

but even for high volume users so many sms are almost useless ... in most cases these sms will go unutilized ... how can some one send 100 sms daily .. !!

I remember reading somewhere else in the forum, a member got 1500 sms per month for free and he finished it in a week or a fortnight..

... he must be living with sms only .. that counts to more than 200 sms per day!! ...

i dont finish up my 300 free sms in a month ...

SMS is a life saver for the speach/hearing impaired. One of my friend has a Reliance connection (DAPO) with free sms because he does all his communication through sms only. before 2003 he had tough time even getting his basic needs like grocery, veggies, milk etc. now all his needs are taken care of by sms.

vodafone also has a special bonus card for people with hearing and speech impairments ... it called the SAMBHAV card. here are its features:

same plan is available in delhi too, i got a promotion call from virgin mobile. They are offering a basic handset with life time validity and the same sms offer for 1699. I am not sure if i need this connection or not
