    Default Virgin Mobile Performance

There was a time when I used to see lots of ads about Virgin mobile and they showed many of their offers, but these days neither have I seen anything on tv or heard about their offers. Were there a lot of people who took their services out in the beginning and don't anymore, well I don't know this!!! I don't know anyone who have Virgin as their mobile service provider either, so its difficult for me to tell.

I actually dont know what their service is like, anyone using Virgin mobile?

Whats it like, whats their reception and over all performance like?

Virgin Mobile did not become very popular, I guess. I do not know anyone using VM.

Part of the reason may be because they offered CDMA based service and CDMA is not very popular with the masses - main reason being absence of good handsets for CDMA.

Virgin Mobile does not have any nerwork of their own. For all practical purposes it is a MVNO riding on the TATA teleservices network. So its service is just as good or as bad as the Service of TATA.

All Numbers of Virgin start with 92 (the same as that of TATA). So even if you have someone using Virgin services you can not guess by looking at the number. The only way to know is if the person tells you.

Further, as J4K already stated, its a CDMA service and generally comes with handsets locked to the service provider. So not many are interested for them.

At the same time, Virgin was the first to offer quality Samsung Explore set at just Rs. 3000. They were also the first to promote the idea of 50p calls after the first minute or first few minutes.Presently, the offer 150 min Virgin to Virgin local calls free daily without any special recharge. I personally know many young couples who maintain an alternate connection of Virgin for calls between themselves.

However, Virgin Mobile rocks in UK. It is the cheapest service out there (as in 2004). In UK also, VM did not own their own network - they leased the circuits.

    This begs an important question:

VM leases bandwidth from others. Which means that the bandwidth costs more to VM than the owners. Yet VM provides cheaper service and manages to return profits as well. So are not the others overcharging?

Yes, Virgin Mobile stays very competitive and at that point is what makes them do very well. I'm very sure that all the other phone carriers are overcharging greatly and that's how they must do in order to stay in the game. Recently Sprint acquired Virgin Mobile here in the USA so they said they plan on keeping the same service and prices just they were going to expand the network even more. So I'll be curious how that works out but I have also not seen many adverts in the USA lately but I think it's related to the Sprint purchase and Sprint just hasn't put anything out yet.

Virgin is doing not good but have nice plans in western UP circle except the hills of Uttarakhand where their signals are not very good. They have amazing plans like virgin to virgin free for all. 10paisa local. 30paisa std. They also have presented many free sms packs which really some of my friends use. Virgin mobile is a Tata subsidiary in India.

well Virgin, Docomo, Aircel are taking TATA network, & TATA network is good so you won't have any problem with any of them.

So currently in the market only 2 network providers has the worst network i.e BPL and Reliance.

    I disagree,
Network is poor plus they offer crappy offers to retain customers by strategies!
    Ya price is low!

But those crappy offers are enough to loot the customers!

How can Virgin be bad and Docomo better (in the same area), if both use the same network? Or are we missing something?

Shopkeeper was trying to sell me Virgin over Docomo, saying it has 10p incoming benifit. But I checked its only for 180 days. So I guess you don't get this benifit after 180 days... or is there some way to reactivate it? Also, they don't seem to have any full talk time offers (at least not mentioned on their site), unlike Docomo and other operators. Hence Docomo plans look better to me.

^^^Gosh, its been months since they started GSM services. Can't recall exactly when. Haven't you seen the ads? Don't know if they have started in your circle though. Check it out.
