Matter is not about how much speed you are getting on edge n/w rather why vodaphone is selling usb sticks (capable of providing speeds upto 3.6 or 7.2mbps) to customers without rolling out 3g or even if they had not brought spectrum for particular region.

As I know, they can also provide 3G services where they had not bought 3G spectrum. Such as AirTel didn't buy 3G spectrum for KOLKATA circle but they are going to tie-up with other operators(those who bought 3G spectrum of KOLKATA) to bring 3G services for it's customers of KOLKATA circle.

Got Vodaphone data card 2 days back@Rs 1600 Prepaid alongwith Rs 599-1 month u/l Gprs pack .
Software by ZTE is crap and using too much resources.

The smart cookies in Voda are yet to activate 3G in the new sim bought along with data card. Showing "E" only even though "144" computer says 3G already activated.

Same Place,Same Android Phone-Same APN settings-Existing other prepaid sim is doing fine with 3G and giving up to 4.5 Mbps.

So right now using BSNL 3G sim in Voda Data card .( working continously for the last 15 hours and doing fine with the capped speed @ 1mbps )No heating.

Have to Bye Pass Voda phone software and connect from the modem with BSNL "APN "settings. Getting blue constant (3G) -(Green means Edge)

I will recharge Rs 98/2GB in the other preapid 3G enabled voda sim and use it in data card and post speed test.

    Angry Voda stick speedtest

Ref the above post- using the other 3 G sim Rs 98/2GB recharge.
Since this is voda sim using the voda software itself.
    Getting around 3.5 Mbps.
    http://www.speedtest.net/result/1219446591.png

But the sim in which Rs 599/UL pack was re charged along with the data card purchase is still in Edge only. After so many calls and mails Iam getting a bullshit reply that my instrument is not 3g !!My phone is 3G and the data card which they sold (thro which Iam writing now)is working in 3 G.
The ugly truth- Rs 599 pack 1month-they are not enabling 3G signal.(anyway till April 10th only) Keeping that sim in the phone for now.
I have not unlocked the modem even though I have down loaded DC unlocker.
Till this free trial is over ,I wont fiddle with this.
Using BSNL sim and bye passing the Voda software is cumbersome and it has tobe that way till free trial is over.
    Update :

Voda 3 G speeds in main roads in Metro is fine.
Their trial for almost 3-4 weeks is very liberal.
    Everybody gave 3G in 2 G prices max 7-10 days.(Aircel,Airtel)
Their stupid ZTE K3570Z data card is even ok (modem max speed 3.6)
and giving 3.2 mbps when used with voda and usual 1 Mbps capped speed with Bsnl. So good enough for using BSNL speed capped 3 g sim for next 4 months.

But the sim they sold along with data card in which I bought the 1 month u/l GpRS pack is restricted at E speed and not 3 G speed. So unfit to use in data card.
They say "technical problems " prevent that sim to be upgraded to 3 G! They even say they are checking with Income tax!!!.It is a bloody pre paid sim with rs 50 main balance + rs 599 Gprs pack valid for 30 days. It is going to be thrown away on day 31 !
So Just keeping it in smart phone. But it is handling my 100-300 emails/daily ok with its 20 KBS "E" speed.

So a slight bitter after taste after enjoying their true 3 G for 2 weeks in Gprs prices !

Their service is better in the sense Iam getting constant bull **** contradictory replies thro email and phone .( BSNL will never bother to reply !)

Iam writing this with their data card using the other 3G sim Rs using 98/2GB recharge and getting above 3 mbps.

To be fair- the Un limited gprs package is supposed to be "E" . If their had been no 3G trial offer in Gprs prices -I would not have even bought this.
But bull shiting that my sim is already in 3G and keeping it in "E" sucks.

Even after this treatment - I will say their network is good and will take a look in their 3 G pricing on April 14.

My BSNL speed capped U/L 3G is up to July 2nd week any way.

P.S: I spoke to a "Aircel" dealer rep at my usual phonewallah shop yesterday.
He says Aircel rolling out Data card+ package on March 31. Iam guessing 3.6 modem with 1 to 1.5 mbps speed with FUP may be 10-15 gb @ Rs 1200??

Vodafone launched its 3G service in kolkata, Having quite good signals also but no plans released yet..!!

Vodafone offered free trials but it was pathetic.. Vodafone deducted main balance account for every usage of data..

My vodaphone is now having -210 balance.
My friends also have -150 balance(average)

    It is basically free trails..!!!
It seems vodaphone already recovered 1% of its investment in 3G during trails..

But it offered quite good speed .. I got 3.22 Mega-bits-persec down rate.. ie basically 290 -400 Kilobytes Per sec in IDM

Vodafone wont be any different than others..
speed differences are due to facts like mobile broadband is based on signals sent from the tower of whose strength can be changing from time to time..
and when a new service comes into market, its more speedier than when it runs on full capacity...
enjoy the bright times of 3G shine
Site from home gaya bhad mein... AIrtel se bolo FUP band kare.. BSNl se bolo 3G signal do!!!!>: (

If you have good signal and if you are on main road (not inside colony) ,you can get up to 5000 kbps(5 mbps) d/l and 2.5 u/l.
But average speed after the initial high was 3500 kbps d/l in chennai till 2 days back ,when I let the trial expire (Iam yet to recharge 3 G data pack. I might do rs 1250/5GB/30 days after a few days )
You need to find where you get good signal by keeping sim in 7.2 mbps smart phone if you have and check in your place.
But your card (3570z I think) is capable of max 3.2 mbps and u/l may be less than 512 kbps.
So you may get between 1.5 mbps to 2.5 on average. But in that card not more than 3.
If this is better than BSNL 3G ,then you can keep it.
Are you on Post paid ? what plan? Introductory Rs 599/stick plan is for GPRS. 3 G trial @ 2G prices are only for a few weeks. You might get a stiff bill later .

Default good speed, bad customer service and senseless plans

I have been using a Vodafone 3g USB stick. While the speed is good - the customer service experience is horrendous. On their helpline 111 most of the executives have no clue about 3g and keep transferring the phones and ultimately hang up with out resolving complaints - average time on a customer call is over half an hour. Billing too is messed up.

The speed of the device is quite good and better than say a tata photon.

However they dont have any unlimited tariff plans the max available is 5 gb/ month in postpaid. 6 month validity postpaid plans are useless as they still apply the per month usage restriction and there is no provision for carry forward.

Prepaid also seems similar - however as of date there is no clarity on the 6month prepaid plan in terms of monthly rests.

Default Worst service of Vodafone 3G USB Stick

I have purchase Vodafone 3G USB Stick 1 1/2 month before. I reside at Mira Road, Mumbai Circle. Till date I can't access 3G service. for this USB Stick i have already paid 2600/- rs. At the time of purchase Vodafone Sales person promised about 3G service activation. Please think twice to buy any service from Vodafone.

VODAFONE : is a day light robber...!!! It seems that vodafone try to rob ppl without providing anything..!!
Same case is for airtel n others..!!

    @superfuzz

dear friend, you dont know my pains..
My father he has a DAPO Reliance phone ringing from last 8 years.
My mother has this vodafone from last 7 years.
both are paying to these two big-robbers like true followers.
and they are like real followers, like that of Osho's or Sai baba. if i try to tell the menaces of these companies to my parents, they over-react and tell whats my problem if they are getting a monthly bill and good services. (considering the same services are available at half price in prepaid).

the biggest argument they raise is the love for their numbers which are old. when i tell them about MNP, they regret that the services would be interrupted.

i can leave Papa's Reliance CDMA phone for the sake of its crystal clear voice, but about Vodafone i will not. because it shows 2 bars max at our home in Nainital.. all the others are good here.. we live not too far.

    Default Totally F#@$& up

I bought new vodafone SIM & took Rs95-2GB-30days plan through their website. After that, I top-uped SIM by Rs50. But I was not able to get 3G signals, SIM forcing to keep EDGE signal[2G] even though my blackberry supports 2G,3G,2G/3G modes. So, go through some forum's, and to activate 3G, I texted ACT 3G to 144(for prepaid only), then after 10mins, I got msg "3G is activated". I put on 3G mode,,,wow,,,Now I able put on mobile on 3G mode..gr8. Then I put SIM in my berry & connected to laptop for browsing. SPEED was totally awesome 789KiloBytes[DU Meter Soft] & 650-750KB [IDM] then I disconnect my internet to check MAIN BALANCE,,,..its 3Rs,,,what?? but I recharged it with Rs 50,..where that goes into? then I realised that m*f* voda was NOT using GPRS, thats f* 3G (n even had no plans). So I called everyones fav Customer Care, I told him, I amNOT able to use GPRS balace (i checked it calling *141*9# == 2047GB), he activated my GPRS n giving very sweet greetings. I checked my MAIN BALANCE == -92 I never ever seen this balance before,,,gr8,,,voda trick man... That CC make me, to pay again for 95 GPRS plan,.... STILL I am NOT ABLE TO access internet or even call to CC,,,bcoz -92 balance So made me to recharge forcefully Rs100(got 86)& Rs20(got 15).........................................AFTER ALL by paying totally app 300 & I cant access ANYTHING,literally,,......

I am from sri ganganagar, rajasthan and i recently bought vodafone 3g usb stick k3570. Since 3g is not launched its running on Edge network. The speed is very very slow, and network crashes more often than not. Whats the expected speed on edge network ??, coz i am getting a mere 80-150 kbps, which is a GPRS speed on mobile phones....so just keeping my fingers crossed for 3G

I am confused about 3G launch as i am not getting confirm answers from vodafone guys.....Are they going to launch 3G in rajasthan or not
