Hi,
I just observed Vodafone 3G disconnects whenever a Gtalk voice call is initiated.
I use Firefox/Google Chrome browser to access Gtalk as application version is not yet available for MAC.
I connect to internet on my laptop via Nokia 5230 (tethering).
3G was activated yesterday and I soon observed this as it was working fine with 2G (GSM). One more thing observed was I get a 10.xx.xx.xx IP (private) on my laptop when connect to internet after switched to 3G. With 2G it was a public IP Address.
ip2location or similar website shows a public IP Address though I get a private IP on my laptop. This could be because Vodafone is proxying/nating the 3G traffic and purposefully blocking traffic by detecting Gtalk voice related traffic.
I am from Bangalore and did anyone experience similar issues with Vodafone or other providers?
Thanks,
Meharo
I just confirmed this behavior by testing the same on VPN. When I connect to office network via VPN, Gtalk voice calls goes through and never disconnects. This is because when I connect to office via VPN, everything is encrypted and a proxy at Vodafone can't see what traffic is going through their gateways.
I think Vodafone should not do this as I am anyway paying for my 3G data plans. Also its my freedom to choose Gtalk for voice calls.
