VoIP in Indian Telecom Market
A little search online on VoIP would reveal the amount of action taking place in “matured telecom markets” abroad. Sadly, there is no activity in what is perceived to be one of the “fastest growing telecom markets”.
There are a few companies as of now who are dealing with the same. Sify is one that has revolutionized the cheap call rates to US, UK and Canada. Tata has bundled this with its Internet dial up (under VSNL). Apart from this, I am not aware of any other major player in the market; with the exception of perhaps BSNL. Frankly, I never got a chance to experience the same; except for Sify, which provides an average experience.
There is no reliable indicator for the quality of services, either it maybe the GSM or CDMA or perhaps VoIP. Once the broadband really kicks in, we might get to see a flurry of activity either way. The market is comatose as of now.
