Default Need some help: PC to landline calls

I would like to use my PC to make calls to landline within India. Is there any dialer software available for it? Instead of dialing from phone I wish to use my PC. I would prefer if it gets billed to my landline. Can someone please guide me?

P.S. Its for the purpose of learning music. The teacher lives in a different city and he doesn't have a computer at his home. So I can't use skpe.

I'm not looking for a free service. I just want to know if there is any software which can be used to call landline numbers from PC.

Nothing is free in today's world, please do not fall for any fake software or adware. If you want to make cheap calls then the best I can suggest is Yahoo Voice, Skype or you can look for Tata indicom.

Any particular reason you want to dial from computer ?

Presume you want to record the the music lessons in your computer, after establishing a contact over Phone.
    confirm.

smoothvibes, I have mentioned in the OP itself that I'm not looking for a free service. Just something at the usual call rate.

Yes, it will be cool if I would be able to record. But the actual reason is if I make the call from PC I feel I can use the mic and speakers and the clarity will be better than using a speaker phone.

If your OS Is XP try this
XP Help And Support: 65. How Do I Get Phone Dialer To Work In Windows XP
Use the dialer and give feedback.
Presume there is a Rj11 jack in system to connect Phone line.
( Usually the old 56K dialup modem )

This procedure is suggested for VISTA also.
    By default Phone Dialer
is not added to the communication menu. Therefore unless you know where to find it your immediate assumption is that Windows XP no longer uses Phone Dialer.
As you can see, from the instructions below,
Phone Dialer is alive and kicking.
It's just keeping itself well and truely under wraps!
    To Run Phone Dialer

    1/ Click the Start button.

2/ From the Start menu click Run.

3/ In the Run dialog box type: dialer.exe and press Enter.

4/ The dialer application will now open.

    Try and give feedback.
I feel Phone line has to be connected to an
56K fax/voice modem. Check any Rj11 port in your computer. ( used for internet connection for Sancharnet/ Netone dial up modem)

I want to call from my laptop using the windows dialer. It has Rj11 port and I followed the instructions in this thread. I can hear the dial tone. But the opposite party cannot hear me. I use airtel broadband and modem model is Beetel 220BXI ADSL2 + modem. Is it required to use voice modem or router? Can someone please guide me?

Yes, I connected the telephone line from the splitter to the Rj11 port and ethernet cable from modem to the laptop. No need to use separate voice modem? *confused*

I couldn't find 56k modem in the control panel/device manager. The only thing that was listed under modems in the device manager(or in phone and modems in control panel) was HDAUDIO Soft data Fax modem with smart cp

The device is working properly from what I see in the properties.

Try fastvoip.com or smartvoip.com for making cheep call to indian mob or landline via pc. They are not free for India, but cheeper then yahoo, skype etc......
Just to download the software from site, recharge your account and start calling. In addition, they give u free calls to may countries....

The best way to make calls is to use skype with a Rylwy adapter.
The adapter connects skype wiyh your own landline and cell phone at your own location.
When you travel you will remote access these lines for free via skype free.
you incoming landline and cell phone calls will be free, while your landline outgoing calls will be charged at your locale home rate of your local landline provider , as if you are using the line from your own location.

    @ alkis
The setup you are suggesting makes no sense what so ever in India. Calling a landline and a cell phone is more or less the same cost here and recieving calls while roaming inside India is free for mobile phones and when we lot go abroad it would be a lot cheaper getting a local sim there and use the data connection tu run skype that way.

How ever what you are suggesting would sure make a lot of sense in Europe and North America.
