    Default Reliance Jio Chat

I downloaded the new Jio chat application for android and have been using it for the last 3-4 days. There is a good feel to the application and it seems to have been put together by good professional team by the looks of it. I am also of the opinion that when I use Jio chat using wifi from my cable broadband connection the lag is not there atall and I feel as if it is a voice call made over the mobile phone's own network. I also had a chance to speak to someone over the Jio chat application while he was on Reliance 4G trial network in another part of the country and I must say I do like what I experienced.

No lag atall which is mostly associated with all wireless data connections due to large number of hops and some hardware constraints.

Reliance Jio is on to something good I believe. You can download the app from Google play store by typing Jio chat. It also has video feature which is again good quality.

The main difference is that all the servers are located in India itself in different data centers across India which gives this application an edge over others. There is also an option for free sms with this. Video quality is better then most other applications that are free to use.

Whatsapp does not have video and their servers are not located in India.

I ended up installing the app, and it is a total waste of time and space on the phone. I dont see any special features or a plus point of using it.

I can confirm that Jio chat application uses almost the same amount of data as compared to skype for voice but for video the data usage was much more on skype probably due to better video quality. It was a mission to figure out how to track the data usage but I eventually did it using the router. Could not find any better way to measure.

that would put it in the more bandwidth hungry category. but still an option for those who have high speed connections

My personal understanding is that the application is meant for use on Reliance Jio's 4G network and data usage from what I know would not be a problem any more because the prices will crash once it is launched. Bandwidth as you already know wont be a bottle neck either on 4G and I can confirm that latency is almost as good as a wired connection. There is no lag in voice and video while using Reliance Jio on their test 4G network. Lots of Reliance Jio employees use it every day and they say they are loving it. I havent had a chance to see it in action on 4G myself but I am sure they are not lying to me.
