    Default VoIP transmission?

As far as I know VoIP is the process of transmitting voice communication over Internet protocol which is commonly known as the intenet. I am just wondering how does the multimedia is delivered through? If anyone knows is any computer program manage the process? What would be the programming language that is possibly used?

Any information is appreciated as long as it answers my query.

How does the audio transmission takes place? If there is, what computer program manage the process? I am asking on the technical aspects of how VoIP works. Does my question makes sense?

Your question seem very vague. Anyhow, for newbies one can say audio transmission takes place as chunks of data itself. As with any computer networks, irrespective of voice or video, everything is transmitted as data. There is no specific 'computer program' that manages the process, but a set of protocols. These are defined by the OSI Model, consisting of 7 layers.

Yeah, I'm a little bit awkward with my question. I'd rather ask "What is VoIP" instead. But anyway, your such a brilliant person @nevinjohn for understanding what I really meant with my query. At least now I am clarified by how does VoIP works, I just thought it is a programmable transmission, and excuse myself for asking such question. Thank you for the link, I will read it carefully for further knowledge.

The easiest thing to say when people are asking about VOIP and what it is, how to use it and various other questions is to simply just tell them to look up Skype.

I would imagine that most people would be aware of and will have used Skype at one time or another and that's exactly what Skype is. A program that lets you make and receive calls over the internet.

I think Skype is an application that uses VoIP, correct me if I'm wrong. I am starting to know some knowledge about VoIP now but just the basics.

VoIP is a technology that allows communication over the internet. I think it is the digital way of communication, where telephone lines is considered to be the analog. As to how it works, I am clearly educated by @nevinjohn, that protocols made the transmission possible along with OSI.

That's what I'm saying. Skype is a VOIP system but a lot of the time people are using Skype and don't actually realise it's VOIP.

You can even get dedicated Skype phones now that means you don't have to even turn your PC or laptop on to be able to make and receive VOIP calls.

On Facebook messenger and WhatsApp you now have an option to call your contact aswell as message them. With that being an internet call would they also be classed as VOIP calls?

I agree, Facebook messanger is also a VoIP application. Actuallly there's a lot applications are offered now that uses VoIP like Viber, Kakaotalk, Line, ooVoo, Google Hangouts and et chetera. Even in VoIP we can see that there's a competition going on. Since it is the modernized way of communication then a lot of developers made an innovation to cope with the generation's demand. Even if I were to ask I probably used a VoIP operated software than the traditional analog one. The only disadvantage I think, is that when you failed to have an internet connection, you're unable to communicate with VoIP.
