Thread: How to dial another VOIP Phone

Dear All,

I have airtel 512 Kbps with static IP in 2 locations in india. i just purchased the Linksys PAP2 VOIP adapter and installed the same.

A. Airtel 512 Kbps connection with 1 static IP in bangalore
B. Airtel 512 Kbps connection with 1 static IP in Chennai

I want to know how to call the
Phone A (which is connected using Linksys PAP2 in bangalore) from
Phone B (which is connected using Linksys PAP2 in Chennai)

I am not a pro at this so take this with a pinch of salt if it doesnt make much sense...

I assume you have got two hard voip phones at both ends.. all you need to do is configure them to use with any voip client like skype or yahoo voice to be able to call without having to pay anyone.

Just out of interest what make and model are these phones? and are these usb phones or what?

Yes. its a normal telephone which is connected to the internet using "Linksys PAP2" VOIP adapter.

You need to get a VOIP account from service providers. And SKYPE will not work on Linkysys PAP2. Skype uses all together different codec so you will not be able to confger SKYPE on Linksys PAP2.

You can sign up with callcentric.com in their IP freedom plan and get a no. This you can configure in your Linksys phones at both ends.You can call each other like a normal phone call,you get a dial tone and phone will ring like a normal phone.You can also download a softphone Xlite from counterpath.com.

Yes, assuming you're using an ATA or softphone that allows it, you should be able to dial (either directly on a softphone, via a speeddial setting in your ATA, or a dialplan entry) a SIP URI that looks like (NNNNNNX@sip.us1.voip.ms) where NNNNNNX is your 6-digit account number at voip.ms followed by the subaccount extension number.
