Thats a pretty nice car, don't think it will last long on the roads of India though, unless you live in some quiet and less crowded place, which is where you will enjoy driving it too.

this car is good for long drives at nite but on highways only as thats the only place where you can enjoy drive in this car, its not a good option for crowded places and narrow streets .
for narrow streets and daily up n down.. saaddi marooti gaddi is the best car

I've heard that ford's are not that good cars, so wouldn't spend money on that and rather got for the VW.

The Jetta is not a cheap car to own. Who said that it is 6-7 lakhs?

The Jetta sits in the same category as Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla Altis. Jetta is the priciest of the three. The ex-showroom costs in Pune are:

    a) Volkswagen Jetta 1.6 Trendline - Rs. 13,19,209/-
Sedan Type, Luxury Car, 5-Seater, Petrol, 1595 CC, 5 Speed (Manual)

    b) Volkswagen Jetta TDI 1.9 Trendline - Rs. 14,45,534/-
Sedan Type, Luxury Car, 5-Seater, Diesel, 1896 CC, 6 Speed (Manual)

    c) Volkswagen Jetta TDI 1.9 Comfortline - Rs. 16,94,042/-
Sedan Type, Luxury Car, 5-Seater, Diesel, 1896 CC, 6 Speed (Automatic)

The good side about the Jetta is that it has almost all the high-end features of a C-Class Merc such as:
    • "Glow" pattern flat weave seat upholstery
    • 2 AC vents at rear
    • Power Driver's seat with height adjustment
    • Lockable, illuminated glove compartment with cooling facility
    • Intermittent automatic rain wipers
    • Door mirrors with integral turn signals
    • Electrically adjustable lumbar support for front seats
    • Illuminated vanity mirrors
    • "Climatronic" air conditioner with 2-zone temperature control
    • Electrically adjustable, heated door mirrors
    • RCD 500 audio system with MP3 players function and integral 6-disc CD changer, 10 loudspeakers
    • 6 airbags
    • 3 rear head restraints
    • Safety-optimised front head restraints
    • Electronic immobiliser
    • Fog lights (Jetta TDI 1.9 Trendline)
    • "Plus" anti-theft warning system
    • Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP)
    • Traction Control System (ASR)
    • 2 additional side airbags for rear passengers

And I would buy a Ford anyday (i.e., Ford is good). This is not to say I am against VW - VW is German after all, but I have first hand experience of more than one Ford and I ^know^ they are good.

@Shadowncon, Correction. Opel is not German - it is US brand owned by GM. In UK it is known as Vauxhall, in AUS known as Holden.

@smnesmwhr, You really like Ford cars? Well, it is a personal choice. But I would not touch a Ford. The following classifies the world cars:

German: (Excessive) Engineering Excellence. Most reliable and sturdy. Announcing a presence.
Japanese: Very economical and value for money. Also very reliable.
Italian/French: Good looking (best Sports cars are Italian).
    American: Huge, Comfortable, Fuel Guzzlers.
Korean: The Japan challengers but at least 2/3 steps behind.
