Default Confused between GoDaddy & HostGator

    Hi Everyone

I am about to put my 1 more website and getting confused between 2 of the hosting providers, GoDaddy and HostGator. Both are providing attractive offers and very reliable too so not sure which one to pick this time. I am just waiting for admin to come back so that can discuss this with him too, meanwhile everyone please contribute.

Please be kind enough to participate in poll too

I would go with hostgator they are very reliable and i think price wise they are good too. They have excellent support service, with qualified staff who know what to do, and they have a good privacy system, so not just anyone can access your info or details by getting in contact with them.

That right itsmemad, godaddy is the best site to purchase your domain names from, and they even provide .in domains now too.

Unfortunately I wont be voting in this poll...because even we are into hosting business

You can consider Godaddy for booking domain names but surely not for hosting. You can refer.......... Nodaddy.com

Hostgator are around due to their intensive advertisements campaign not sure about their quality of support..... have heard may issues regarding their tech support at WHT.
    Rant over......

Default GoDaddy is the way to go cuz...

    1. They are the biggest domain name registrar in the business which means they aren't disappearing anytime soon.

    2. Their prices may not be the cheapest but it is still cheap.

    3. By registering your domain names with GoDaddy.com you can be confident that you won't have to contend with some pesky lawsuit somewhere down the road because you were inadvertently issued a domain name that apparently belonged to someone else.

    4. You can rest easy in the knowledge that you will get ample notification when your domain name registration is expiring.

    NOTE:
Be aware that if your domain name expires because your domain registrar never bothered to apprise you of its impending expiration, it could cost you a fortune to get it back. This actually happens more commonly than is acknowledged, most especially with the cheaper domain name registrars.

    Why?
You see there really isn't much money to be made from plain domain name registration. Because domain name register services are charged $6.00 per year per domain name by companies such as VeriSign which by the way is the authoritative directory provider for all .com, .net, .cc, and .tv domain names and is solely responsible for handling the backend system for .com names, which currently constitute the greater percentage of the 105 or so million sites registered worldwide.

On top of that domain name providers or registrars have to pay ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers)a non-profit fee of 25 cents per name. Consequently those companies charging less than $7.00/year for domain name registration are making no profit whatsoever and are even probably losing money.

So how do domain name registrars contend with this trifling inconvenience?

The bigger domain name registration companies make their real money on backend or added feature sales, such as hosting. The lesser and cheaper registration companies make do by saving costs by eliminating important features such as automated-expiration-date notification.

Bottom line: As far as GoDaddy is concerned, register your domain name with them but skip the hosting offers and other enticing features!

Yeah, of course you want to choose Hostgator. It is a reliable web hosting. There are many positive review about Hostgator, and like other web hosting services, they get some negative reviews as well.

GoDaddy is a new kid on the block in web hosting service business. They are fantastic as a registrant but not as a web hosting provider.

Smile I like Yahoo India Small Business

I have been using Yahoo India Small Business services for 2 years now. They have domain name registration and web hosting in same package. In around Rs.2200, its hassle free webhosting according to me.

Many suggest that purchasing your domain name and hosting from the same provider is recommended. I dont go with that consensus. Its just to avoid having to redirect your domain to a different provider, this is not difficult to do.

So depending on which service you are looking for, each of the two companies you suggest has its merits.
Hostgator = excellent hosting at a price that is affordable for all, very professional and here for the long haul.
Go Daddy = excellent domain name provider, easy to use site and very quick redirects and DNS changes.

    There you go:

    Hostgator for Hosting
    GoDaddy for Domain purchase.

I know I repeated myself above, but just wanted to be doubley clear that you got my meaning.
