    Good post... As mentioned, it's always better to install the latest version of the Forum Software manually... Since, Fantastico is not always updated by the host, it's best to use when you wanna loose your virginity by creating your very first website.

    @logik
    A similar forum in Indian Languages could be a profitable venture.
    Even here, if postings in Hindi are allowed,
    ( in a seperate sub forum)
    It would attract more traffic.

    भारतीय भाषाओं में इसी प्रकार का एक मंच एक लाभदायक उद्यम हो सकता है. यहाँ भी, अगर हिन्दी में नियुक्तियों की अनुमति है, (एक अलग उप मंच में) यह अधिक यातायात को आकर्षित करेगा.
    ( Translation automatic . Not mine . Please excuse
    mistakes My mother tongue is TAMIL, and know some/little English. Forgot Sanskrit )

    Hi, Dilip, how much MySQL space do we need to host forums?
    Most free hosting gives about 50mb space......

    For eg, IBF has now crossed 200,000 posts... So how much MySQL space will it be occupying?

    A vbulletin forum requires very less hard drive space.. its when you let users upload pictures and stuff and files that it starts to add up with time. This sites back up file which includes all the uploaded files as well does not exceed 1GB and that also includes the traffic logs from the last 5 years.

    Shared hosting is what you need for a startup not free hosting as it gives you a lot of flexibility to work with.

    I deleted some logs a year ago and deleted thousands of members profile who only registered here and never returned back and that reduced the mysql size a lot.. other then that I also deleted some log files about 6 months ago to make the back up file lighter.

    4gb space for mysql alone on vb would mean a very large forum.. more then two million posts I guess.
